Hi folks.
I recently installed TOG headers on my 1500. My friend Dave who owns a performance company helped me with the install. He builds big blocks for a number of prominant drag racers so I give alot of wieght to his opinion.
He says that I would probably get better low end with a single tail pipe instead of the duals I'm currently running. I decided that since there is a group buy going on the SS Magnaflow cat back system, I would try it out. I'm interested in what others of you with similar setups might have experienced in this regard. And as always, Muffman, please way in! :)
Thanks,
John

what pipe sizes?

this is the variable that makes a difference...cross sectional area...

John:

You will get more low end with the single pipe but you will lose on the top end, depending on how small the single pipe is.

I have dual 2-1/4's, which works out to 7.95" of total area for the exhaust to flow out of. A single 3" pipe has 7.07" of area so there is a significant difference.

If you want to try before you make a decision, you could always make a timed run with the current muffler. Then plug one of the exhaust pipes and make the run again. Obviously it wouldn't be an exact apples-to-apples comparison versus the new muffler but at least it would give you some numbers to look at.

I believe the magnaflow in the group but has 3" pipe with a 4" tip.
That is correct ;) and my .02 I see no loss of power as my AV speedo. climbs towards the 120mph mark (not that I condone this typoe of driving nor do I recommend it >:D ) in fact it seems to run stronger in the mid to higher RPM's

TNAV (Bob) I don't "I don't condone this either", But HELL I do recommend it...

In your own words..."HELL YEAH"

As to single/duals... He is partly right however he should of ellaborated on it... depending on the type of can used, size, internalas, pipe size, bend... and then you have the all mighty air pump called the engine.

I have done enough exhaust test, and have the people with the know how and how to put these things together as well as custom building can's from raw materials. I for 1 have always found if the system is built right or the components work with each other DUALS is the way to go!

But what do I know... As I have no torque to speak of >:D

Now I will say that DragonSlayer's AV has duals and his does SCREAM from low to top end and everything in between!!
What an AV  when my AV grows up I want it to be just like his OH HELL YEAH, I do ;)

I have a racer friend too.... ;D

He says he always eats chilli the night before racing, he swears it knocks off a second on his quarter mile time >:D

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.....

Only problem with the chilli thoery is sometimes you miss chewing all the beans... And it wan't to come out sideways  , hence slowing you down >:D
