biggest tires on a stock 2500 avalanche

Some are running 285's, with a few turns of the front torsion bars

Sorry, welcome to the club (y)

Terry ;)

how tall are 285's ???? about 33"s or so?? I think i'm gonna try and get 20" rims

I have a 1500 with the 16's.. Im not sure what size rim im going to get yet, but im looking to get a little more ground clearance. I figure I want a bigget tigher, slightly bigger rim and maybe a 3 inch lift. thing is, where to find a reputable shop to reprogram my speedo, and whatever else need to be done...

Hey I've got a 02 2500 4X4, the guy at the tire shop is telling me there is no safe way to put bigger tires on my truck.  They say there isn't a 6.5 inch width tire that will fit my truck safely, also a bunch of talk about not lowering my load rating, is he full of it or is he correct. I want to put lt265 75 16 on it to fill up the wheel well.  Anybody got any advice

Most tire manufacturers make an LT265/75R16 "E" rated tire, that'll fit your truck just fine. Being that you have a 2500, I would most definitely stay with an "E" rated tire, unless you don't ever tow/haul anything. Not suggesting going down a load rating, but at a MINIMUM stay higher than a "D"

My $0.02...I see a lot of people here in Mi running 285/75 - 16 on their silverados.  In fact my dad them on his truck. I would say that if your Av doesn't have cladding, you'll probably be ok.  minor rub in reverse at full crank, but no biggie.  With cladding, I couldn't tell ya.  The wheel wells are moderately different, if memory serves me.  Hope ths helps.

i went to goodyear today and asked about the 285's and the guy said that it screws around with the car and that he said i should go with 265's?? i have no idea what he ment? but what do you guys think? is he full of it or should i just go with 265's?? ???

16x8 inch ARE Outlaw II rims with 265 Series Cooper Discoverer ATs.  (Check other recent posts for pics.)

My front torsion bars are cranked up a bit, and I have airbags in the rear which lift a bit.  Mine still rub on a reverse full lock turn (which I get into once in a while backing the boat).

I am running 285 BFG KO's with no rub or problems.  I had leveled my truck out with the T-bars and had some issues with the shocks and upper bumps stops.  But as for the tire, there is no problem running a 285 on the 2500.  I tow my fathers Formula 29' fastech (about 9000 lbs) all the time without any issues.  Check my threads for tons of post on t-bars / 285's / and good shocks to run if your going to crank t-bars.

Welcome to the 2500 Nation !!! >:D

Can I fit 20's on a 2500? Haven't found many out there either. I don't haul much more than a couple dirt bikes and a 4 wheeler. I'm really looking for a nice set of 20's. Haven't seen any 2500's on here with any.

has anybody went to a 17 inch on the 2500  ???

I put a hummer h2 wheel on mine it's 17 inches
