Black diamond?

Has anyone ever heard of a black diamond edition pre 2013?A seller in Alberta claims a 2012 LTZ is a BD

If the truck has a badge, it's upbadged. If you can even call it that. All 2013's were diamonds so there isn't a major difference outside of the model year.

Though if it's missing the badges, chances are the person selling just doesn't know any better and just made the listing based off if a diamond nearby.

Take a look if it's a good deal, sometimes in cases like this people are rightly suspicious and ignore the listing making it easier to haggle. just take whatever they say with a fistful of salt and have it properly inspected. Lol.


There's always a chance they made a typo too. Its always better to clarify these things with the seller.

Thanks for replying Raekal.The truck is definitely advertised as black diamond.It has the BD medallion on the sails but they seemed placed wrongly with the LTZ emblem and one the tailgate as well.I phoned GM Canada in Oshawa and they checked the VIN not showing a BD app.The trouble is I can’t find anyone who can say that they didn’t produce any before 2013

It was common for some pre-2013 owners to buy and install the two Black Diamond pillar badges on their trucks.

A sticker don't make it so.

Kind of like putting a full Trans Am hood bird sticker package on a base Firebird.

I agree with all of the above posts. The Black Diamond Edition was advertised and marketed for a special edition for the 2013 model year only. Some Chevy salesmen didn't even know that the 2013 BD could be purchased in other colors then black too.
One thing that made that model stand out was the smooth upper painted cladding as standard vs. prior years it could be an option. Yet some options were not available for the 2013 BD since the AV was being phased out. (see older threads about the 2013 to see what was and was not available.)
Many website members made their own version of an AV SS model and badged it as such since GM never came out with a high performance AV so you may find many of them on the used car market as well.

The 2012s were available as an option to have color matched cladding. I believe in three colors black, silver, and white. They probably took one of these and added the BD placard on the side. You can get them on Amazon. I actually had to replace one on my 2013 BD. Cost me $80.
