hey all, just found this site and it looks great.  Had the AC running the other day with no problems.  stopped for gas, turned off the truck and all AC/Fan.  when i went to turn the AC and fan back on, there was no fan power, nothing.  within the span of 5 min, i lost all blower motor control...Checked all the fuses and they appear fine.  The fan worked perfectly (no noises, rattling, etc), then poof, no more fan in every setting (1-5). I have a manual control climate settings.  any ideas on this one?

also, how the heck do I clear the DIC.  Every time i start the Av, the DIC tells me i need to change the oil.  The manual shows the DIC on the dash, but my Av doesnt have this feature on the dash?

thanks in advance

Maybe the fan motor is burned out, I would check the motor with a 12 volt tester to be sure it's getting power.

Welcome to the site!

As far as the DIC I think one way to reset it is from the ignition off position turn the key to accessories (Not ON) and pump the gas pedal all the way to the floor 5 times then turn the key to off. When you restart the DIC should be on zero.

michigan, that was gonna be this weekends project.  where the heck is the blower motor located?  pls dont tell me i have to rip the dash out...argh!

The fan is on the bottom of the air duct housing under the dash

Check the right IP fuse block for blown fuse, if not it's probably the blower motor resistor

Had same problem this week... took it in, and apparently this is a pretty common problem.  Mine was bad blower motor relay.  ~$110 + labor and I was back in business.  The relay is located under the passenger side dash, and was pretty simple to replace...

Cool.. thanks for the info.  Is there a TSB on this issue since it seems to be common?  I have a subscription to AllData, but did not recall seeing anything about it.  I know there is one for the ABS / Brake Booster ground system which i hear is common also.

The problem is your blower motor resistor, it only takes a 7mm rachet and socket to replace it, costs $26, I changed it in 5 minutes in the Napa parking lot, it's very very common!

Sorry to bother, but none of the links in this thread are working and I have just encountered this issue.

If you're looking for the resistor:

I grabbed both links for the 1st and second gen eras, but upon review, it seems to be more or less the same location.

Pretty much everything that's related to this issue (aside from fuses) is right in this area. The blower motor, the resistor, and associated wiring.

I didn't see what model year your truck is, but here is a picture of the resistor I removed from my 2003 Avalanche.

The replacement part is a much better design.

The above videos will get you right to the repair spot.

Pretty easy.
