Here in Colorado there is no 93 octane. We have 89 premium
(Our regular is 85, mid grade is 87).
What does this mean for a potential blower install? Based on what I've read in this excellent forum, it would seem detonation is a given.
I'm not looking for huge gains or racing. Just a nice kick in the seat without having to mod the heck out of everything ... Oh, and the occasional ricer-boy dusting!

Thanks to all - really love this site!

not absolutely sure i have the answer you are searching for. one of the more experienced in that area will read this soon. i do however believe that you are correct. detonation seems likely without the higher octane fuel when using a blower.

why is it Colorado has no 93 Octane, or 87 Octane? here on the east coast, and any other place i have been as far as Texas to the west, there is 93 Premium, 89 Mid-Grade, and 87 Regular. on rare occasions i have seem 94 Octane and Cam2 (102 or 105? ???).

I believe its because of all the eco conscious hippies in Colorado (just kidding, I love it out there)

But actually, I think the extra octane is not needed due to the altitude. I'm sure an someone who really knows what their talking about will confirm

Hi there,
I was not able to tell what part of the State you were from, so I went with the average. The average elevation for the state is 6800 feet. Calgary is at 3700 feet. Premium here (and I think much of the country) is 91.
I'm running a whipple and the sticker that came with it said that 91 was the grade to be used. On days like today, 33 degrees C / 96 degrees F, I wish we had 93 as I do getr the slightest knock under HARD throttle.
My guess is that 89 would be OK, and if needed you could dop in a small amount of octane boost.
You might want to work your way up to a blower by upgrading the air intake, exhaust and maybe headers (all needed to get full pop from a SC) and then decide if you still want/need one?

Thanks much. I'm at 5800 feet and driving in this state can go anywhere from 4000 to 12000 in a single trip.

The suggestion to do the basic mods first is a good one. I plan to do the intake/exhaust and tranny upgrades before considering forced induction of any kind.

I'm not greedy either. A nice reliable 80-100 hp would make me real happy

I think you should talk to a member who goes by the name of "kodiakz". He's got a magnuson RADIX on his truck and I believe he lives in CO.
