Borla

Anyone know where I can get a sound clip of a borla cat back on the av?

Hey Whiskey, Search and yee shall find. Here you go. Got mine installed about two months ago. The sound has gotten a bit deeper since it has been broken in. THis is the Borla Turbo XL. Its a little smaller muffler than the one you get with the Cat Back kit. The Cat back kit may be a little quieter if any.

I hope you enjoy this video. Its truly an amazing exhaust. This video is 10 megs in size. It takes a littel while to load. Be patient, its worth it.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck!!

man that is so sick!!! I love the way you have the ex set up. Did you get diff ex tip for that? I see 2 tip and 2 puffs of smoke out of the rear. The borla catback that I have been looking at is only single tip but still looks cool. Did you have to do any mods to get it ti go into the cladding? What did you use as the crome ring around the tips? Anyway good job looks good. I would like to do the same type of thing. If you have any pic I would love to see them to get a lil better idea of what you did.. Thanks again for the link..

Power where did you get the exaust setup?? how much?? Im from jersey so I trip to the island wouldn't be bad for me.

Hey Whiskey, Major thanks for you compliments.
I wanted the Cat Back Duel Outs and also wanted to use the Stylin Concepts Roll Pan Tips. The tips required custom pipe work so I did not need the cat back kit. All I needed was the Borla Muffler. The muffler that comes with the Cat Back kit can not be sold independantly of the kit. This being the case, I ended up going with the Borla Turbo XL 3" inlet and 2, 2.25" outlets.

You will not be sorry to say the least. The sound is like a single malt scotch. It gets better with age. I am now starting to notice the increase in torque at around 25 MPH. I think I am also getting better gas mileage. I'll be looking into this more.

More about the Tips. Stylin Concepts Sells them
They are $199 a piece.
Found herehttp://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts.cfm/partfamilyid/666/CategoryID/28/SubCategoryID/162

The Muffler cost around $250
Borla Turbo XL Found here

Search the net you can find much better prices than what Borla offers it at.

Altogether the job will cost you around $1200-$1300. Please, Please, Please only let a custom car shop do the Tip installation. The tips need to get installed first and then the exhaust is installed and the pipes meet the tips. Kind of backwards I know. Holes will be cut into your truck. Make sure the guy who does the tip install knows what he is doing.

I have some pics of the actual underside of the truck at home. I put them up tonight.

Hey Bone Dog,

You dont need to live on the Island to do this. The tips can be ordered from Stylin Concepts. The exhaust can be ordered over the Internet as well. You need to find a GOOD and I mean GOOD Custom Body Work Guy. You dont want them screwing this up. I had a problem with my installation. Should have never went to the guy I did. Nothing Major, they were just lazy.

thanks Power I love those tips but on my lease I think the dealer would have a corinary >:D But I liked the sound of the exaust on your link sooooo now I might change my mind from Magnaflow to Borla but 250 is a lot for one muffler though :6: oh well, thanks for the info though.

P.S You Lookin' Good Kid!!!

That has to be one of the nicest systems I've seen! Sounds Awesome! Excellent job and sound clip. I've been looking at exhausts for awhile. That might have convinced me to hold off on some other work I want to do. A little pricey, but possibly worth it. (y)

HOMACK,
Thanks for the compliment. I am really happy with it.

In the end the tips are only for show, they have no bearing on any performance gains and exhaust sound. The Borla Exhaust is what is really driving this beast. I have studied different exhausts for a long time now. Search all the exhaust threads from when this site first started and you will probably see me posting in them asking stupid questions. I have put as much thought into the exhaust system as I have the Tatoos on my body. I can tell you that if your looking for a Duel out setup that screams when you want it to scream and Purrs when you want it to Purr then Borla is the way to go.

Under normal driving conditions there is none to very little. When accelerating you hear it a little. You can eccelerate in a way that you will not hear it at all but your take off will be slow. WHen you go Wide open throttle the engine screams as it usuelly does except you also hear a throatier growl.

I wanted an exhaust that would be unheard when driving regularly but aggressive in sound when you get on it. This exhaust does just that. This is not an exhaust for a person who is looking for extreme aggressiveness. Go with the Flowmaster 40 if your deaf and hate your neighbors. With this exhaust if you close your eyes you would think you were listening to a stock vette or SS Camaro.

I am going to post another video taken while I am driving so you can hear what it sounds like under normal relaxed driving conditions and Wide open thottle. I hope to do this by the weekend and will post the link here.

I had just about decided on Magnaflow, but that Borla sounds very sweet. Funny, I went to a local muffler shop to check out Magnaflow, but the guy there was really talking up the Borla's -- now I see why.

Borla is pricier than most exhausts set ups. But its worth every cent. Ask most performance people. If you have a new Vette you will put a Borla on it before a Flowmaster. If you have a 60's hot rod, you will probably go with a Flowmaster. It depends a lot on the car. Most of us drive these trucks with families in them. You roll down the windows with a Flowmaster 40 duel out the side set up and your wife will not be happy. Unless of course your wife is cool >:D

Thanks for the compliment. As nice as mine may be there are others on this site that blow mine away. Look around you'll see!!

Yes I will but it will have to wait till the week end. They should be up on Saturday along with new video clipps of the interior sound at idle, normal driving conditions, and WOT.

Powersurge, your truck is totally boss! Has the exhaust heat caused any problems with your cladding? I noticed a little smoke in your video. Is your cladding getting sooty? I have two other mods to get before I'm able to spend money on exhaust, but after seeing your setup it is definitely on my wish list. Too too cool! Congratulations!

Thanks for the compliments Cool Rod. The smoke you see from the video I beleive is a Faulty PCV Valve. Its a known issue on the 02's. After about a weeks worth of driving the cladding is slightly sooty. I suspect that when I change the PCV Valve that will go away. After I installed it I was concerned that the heat would cause problems. I have inspected it and have since realized that the heat is only concentrated on the 2 exhaust outlets in each tip. These outlets do not touch the cladding in anyway.

Again thanks for the compliment. If you decide to do it the payoff is huge. Edlebrock Headers are next!!

As a matter of curiosity, were you able to get another video? I'd like to hear how it sounds inside the passenger area. Thanks
