I just noticed that a piece of the gold colored backing behind the acrylic bowtie on the grill has become detached. ?It looks awful. ?Why would this happen if there hasn't been any contact in that area of the truck? ?Has anybody else had this delamination problem? ?Do you think the dealer would replace the bowtie under warranty?

What are my other options for replacement and how hard is it to install myself?

No reason they shouldn't replace it. Ever notice the older ('88-'93) GM pickups with the chrome peeling off the grilles? GM probably got the bowties from the same supplier. Although I haven't seen bowties peel before.

This should be replaced by dealer and let me know if you want to remove it yourself without pulling the grille there is a pretty easy way with a long flat screwdriver.

You may be able to get a rplacement from the dealer, but maybe now is the time to consider a flag bowtie? I routinely get comments on how good it looks on my truck. (y) (I get no benefit from the sales, I just like the way they look.)

Whatever you decide to do, removing/replacing the bowtie is very easy. Just reach up under the bowtie with your finger, reaching through the slot for the hood latch. As you reach up and feel around, you will feel an inch wide plastic tab. Push up and out on that tab, and it should release the bowtie, so that from the front you can angle it up and off. The replacement just snaps back in.

Once you've done it and see how it mounts, it only takes a couple of seconds. There is more discussion about this in the above flag bowtie thread.

Boy, wish mine was that easy, I'd have it "modded" by now! Like a Silverado, the WBH has nuts! :cautious:

Nuts? Nuts!

I didn't know that. Like I said before, I learn something new every day here. (y)

Well, fortunately, midlife has a 2002, so his just clips on, and my advice is still valid. You guys with the WBH, sorry, but you're out of my realm of experience and you're on your own. :6:

I assume then that the WBH use the slightly smaller version of the bowtie, like the Silverado and Suburban. Boy, that could be confusing when it comes time to order one. I wonder if Joe W. will now be making flag bowties just for the WBH?

Yep, nuts. I bought a flex shaft but can't find the right socket (needs to be deeeeep) to get them off. The dam hood latch mechanism is in the way or I could reach down in there. If I can get it off then I'll go the Velcro route. :cautious:

Mine is flaking also. Had not seen anything here about it. Thought I may been the only one with a flakey bow tie. :(

I'll bet that's why the "Dressed up" Av has the easy-off bowties.....so you can change them easier when they get "flakey". :D ;)

Yep, mine flaked too. Bought a new one and painted over the old one (tried to Duplicolor changing paint process as discussed previously - don't like how it looks on my Red Av). I'm going to put a flag sticker over the old bowtie and seal it this weekend, so now I've got 2 bowties depending on my mood.

I just replaced mine with a billit bowtie and love it.
I am considering looking into painting the old bowtie the same color as my Av to have as a backup. I think I've seen this before and I'm sure there must be some threads on it but I'm too busy (ok lazy) to look it up right now

Yep - mine is a little flakey. I just attributed it to damage from road debris. Oh well, just an excuse to get a bowtie with the Stars and Stripes.
