yesterday, driving home my brake pedal started going near the floor, but the last 1" or so would allow the truck to stop still. Got home checked fluid level and topped it off. No visible residue on any wheels.

this morning check the fluid level to make sure i hadnt lost any due to gravity, and all was good. as soon as i started the truck the brake pedal felt the same as it did yesterday, and the Service Brake System message popped up on my way to work. just went out to look things over in the daylight, and there is fluid all over the ABS module (assuming thats the brake box near the frame rail under the drivers seat). i have not investigated farther to see if the fluid is from a failed line, or the module itself.

the question is, how likely is it that the ABS module went bad like that? i know brake lines rusting out on these is a super common issue, so i assume its that, but dont want to get my hopes up for a brake line job, but instead need a $300+ ABS modulator valve.

I'd have a help apply the brakes while you look for a fountain coming out of the system. That will quickly tell you where it's coming from.

thats part of my plan for after i get home today. just trying to get some research done before i get home.

Yeah, you'd want to make sure it's leaking from the module itself and not just a nearby line or fitting.

That said, i think the valve and electrical portion is made out of plastic, which generally leaks within itself and causes issues with the electronics. So there's no reason why the housing couldn't be cracked or it is escaping out of the seam/ electrical connector.

If i had to guess, the modulator valve assembly is likely fine in this case.
