I've been getting a number of IM's and e-mails about bringing ATV's to the National Meet. First off the Black Hills National Forest is a great place to take your ATV's. South Dakota is a pretty friendly state when it comes to ORV's in general.

So to answer the question, not just yes but hell yes bring your ATV's with you if you want. Because there is so much interest I will be adding an ATV specific track on Tuesday and Friday of the National Meet. It will take some organizing and we'll have to find a local guide to hire for the folks going.

Security at the Conference Center will be an issue. I would definitely figure out some way to secure your ATV's well on the trailer or in the bed of your Avalanche as there won't be any garage facility available. If there is enough interest we may get a large storage area for the Conference and we could bill out for using it to store your ATV. I can see the need for storage with the number of door prizes we're getting.

Another thing to consider. South Dakota has been in the grips of a severe drought (think the 1930's dust bowl style drought) for three years. If they don't get serious rain this spring it could be very possible that ATV's will be banned due to the fire hazard of humans being in the area. Also fires may close down access to some areas.

So I would keep tabs on the local situation a couple of weeks before to find out the status of what's going on.

So the bottom line is yes, bring your ATV toys and we are going to set up a seperate track for those to enjoy.

;D

We're bringing four, enclosed carhauler so security is less of a concern, but storage area deicated for atvs would be worth a charge. Let's hope the spring is wet and wild in the upper high plains so the whole forest is open to us. Except of course the wilderness areas, us atvs aren't complete cretins, but we do like to ride

Thanks Chief, I was waiting for that... Now I'm all set for NATS!!!!! I even got me a trailer...

what kind of track for the atv?? is it a trail ride, or a race? i think it would be fun to set up cones like a auto cross and time each person on thier quad on how fast it takes them to go through the course. what kind of quads are you people bringing????

Hey everbody! As Chief stated we have had some very serious dry conditions in the last 5 years actually the first two not near as bad as the last 3. So please before you go through the trouble of brining your ATVs out check with the forest service as they do close trails quite often to moterized vehicle travel. I personally own 2 atv, Snowmobiles, Motocycle, and love to take my AV out from some time in the woods. But we have lost many many acres to fire in the past 3 years so Please Please be extra carful. I know you all will be and it is greatly appreciated. This site is a great place to get info on the Black Hills and the fire threat.

Well hopefully I gave you guys some good info here. I just would hate to see you drag a trailer and gear all the way here and get stuck not being able to use it.
