The hard body bumpers become brittle in the cold and crack with just the slightest bump does anyone know if this problem is being addressed by gm im told by the dealer that there is no warranty on the bumpers if they are pushed or bumped but the problem is that there like fine china it takes almost nothing to crack them

At any rate, if your vehicle is new any problem should be covered under warranty, (comma) including the body panels ((parenthesis open) which GM calls "(quote)cladding"(quote))(parenthesis closed).(period)

well, it's been pretty friggin' cold in CT this winter - 5 degrees at dawn is not unusual these days it seems - and my "fine china" bumper has survived without shattering into a million pieces - perhaps I am just lucky 
I have put the Av into more than a few snow drifts this winter, no harm (although I am bound to crack a fog or drl housing if I keep that up!).
I am also not aware of the bumper being excluded from the warranty, perhpas your dealer was indicating that bumper damage from smacking into thigs is not a warranty item (have to admit I kinda see their point on that one).

Seems my dealership is trying to exclude cladding from warranty work also.
I recently lost both 'diamond' plates on the rear bumpers where the steps are (the small ones). Not sure when I lost them, but when I brought it into the dealer, they said that it couldn't be a warranty issue becuase I lost both of them, and besides, there was snow in the trailer hitch, indicating I must have backed up into a snow bank.
Now, there's no damage to the rest of the bumper, and if pushing a little bit of snow causes the plastic to come apart, that is a concern to me. It's very possible this happened on one of the days it was 30 below.
I'm a little anoyed at the dealer and will probably fix my bumper with carriage bolts for now. I'll let him deal with the two $60 covers (their quote), after checking gmpartsdirect I think they ordered the wrong ones.
I think that even if they took the time to order the correct parts, I would still be annoyed at them.

Update:
I should state that the $60 is in Canadian dollars, but it is still way too much for those small parts.
It turns out that the dealer ship I was dealing with just charges that much for parts, apparently there is a 50% markup. Upon checking gmparts direct it would appear that I can get the same two plates for half the cost. (including shipping and exchange rates)
My biggest concern is that the dealership's main argument was that the steps are not meant to be used and are for show only. As they put it, the bumpers are not something that moves and if they break, then an outside force must have been applied to them, so any damage they incur is not covered under warrantee.
So, GM does not expect anyone to actually step on the steps?
Oh well, I guess I'm never going back to that dealership again.

I am told by my dealer that my cracked and scratched bumper can be repaired to look like new they have an outside company that comes in to do this work will keep everyone posted with the results once the work is done as well the have offered to have any scratches to my paint buffed out at no cost to me.
