Boys and Girls!!!!

I want to get a club started up here in cow town. I realize its cold as hell right now so there is not much we can do. I have plans to set up mountain drives, fishing trips, and camping adventures. My job has 1 luxury and 1 fault. The one luxury is, is that I drive all over alberta, BC and Saskatchewan. I take tons of backroads to survey oil wells and such. I know some good trails to take and good fishing holes to camp and fish at. I am going to need someone to help me organize things becauase I am away sporadically. If anyone is interested please message me and we'll figure out how to get things started.

Enjoy the cold!
Good luck with forming your chapter, you are in for a tonn of fun and it's a great way to meet people with the same interest as yours.. AVALANCHE!

I'll be happy to help if I can.

Well I could do some kind of base camp or something. The type of things you are wanting to do are just not my 'thing'. Not much for the woods, one look at the Av and it's kind of a dead giveaway ;)

As things settle down here maybe I can start 'tagging' folks. Find some other woodsy types for ya.

It is encouraging to hear someone from Calgary interested in creating meets. Chasman and myself have put together several Edmonton and Alberta meets, but no one from Calgary has attended yet.

Your interests sound similar to Chasman's and mine. Some of our meets have met halfway in Red Deer, in hopes of Calgary members attending, and then go west into the mountains, exploring the backroads.

I need to be hooked up with a job that involves me being paid to drive around in the backwoods. Instead I'm behind a desk making peanuts. :(

If you are interested in any meets with the Edmonton Chapter of CAFCNA, either reply here or send a PM to Chasman or myself. :)

Boar-Ral, I did not know you could make peanuts. Thought you had to grow them ;)

In all fairness there are only about 3 active members in Calgary and there has not been any active tagging in the last while. It may be safe to do so again.
While I understand people wanting to go back in the woods, for some folks that is just not their thing. Heck I'd get high-centered on a good sized tree root

There certainly are more and more potential members and ground pounders for GyroMan to talk to each day around here. There are Av's everywhere. Not as excited about their trucks as many of us old-timers, but they are there.

Hey, just browsing through and found this thread...

Granted I do not live in calgary, but a thought came to me that might be of some interest to you, (even sparky)

why not do a day cruise to banff, granted it is a bit of a drive (an hour or so), but I think it would be more enjoyable then meeting up at Eau Claire Market down town. (just watch out for elk.... )

Granted alot of things are kind of off limits with winter up there, but come spring Banff, Bragg Creek, there are alot of nice places to cruise around to.... maybe even go to canmore Cochrene for Ice Cream (don't remember the name of the shop, but they always have a line a block long....)

Just some thoughts....

That "ice cream" place is in Cochrene(realitivly $$$ suburb of calgary.) Im usually in grand prarrie or ft. Mac Murray... survey oil wells eh? Lots of surveying companys out of calgary... Closer to spring I could probably cash in some sick days and head down to banff!

thanks for correcting me on where the place was... it has been a couple years since I lived in Calgary, so my memory is foggy on certain details...

Keep me in mind if you plan a GTG I am in Red Deer and have done some things with the Edmonton Chapter. Since Im 1/2 way between both i can douple dip......mmmm ice cream double sccop!

Yes, the ice cream shop is McKay's. Still have people lined up. Will have to give that some thought for the summer. I would be fine with a road trip to Banff (y)

Of course, there could always be Peter's Drive-in in the summer as well.

I wish our drive-in theatre was not closed in Edmonton. :( I wanted to take my Avalanche there.

Let me know if the Calgary Chapter organizes anything and I will try to organize some Edmonton members to attend, too. I will attend myself, if work cooperates. I may need to bring my Excursion though because the Avalanche is currently parked at my parents' place while I look for a buyer.

I think i'll schedule come cruises in the summer. Winter just isnt that fun to schedule these sorts of things. I hate when my truck is dirty too. Anway im open to suggestions.

I'll be in Calgary briefly around mid-morning this coming Monday, January 26. If anyone wants to meet up for lunch, drop me a pm.

The Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton groups have had good success in the past with journeys through the mountains, stopping in small towns for something to eat, and then returning home. The scenery is incredible for photographs. :)

Im planning a ski-trip to lake louise in about a months time dont know if the av is part of the trip considering its a thousand+ kms, and I have a mid 90's Luxery car. If I am bringing the avalanche (maybe doing a demo or somthing down there) I will make sure to post more detailed times.
