Califiornia Car Duster!

GUEST
I was wondering if anyone has used those "California" dusters on their Avalanche or any other vehicle to get the dust off that accumulates daily ? Also I've seen a squeegee that promises not to hurt the finish when wiping the water off after a wash. Does anyone recommend this instead of toweling off or using a leaf blower ?

I have the same duster but have been pretty hesitant to use it. I'm just concerned it has some harmful micro-particles in it now from my previous truck ans wifes car. If I use it now, I am worried I'll just scratch the bajesus out of my black finish.

If there's a way to clean it so I can use it, that would be great!

I have used the duster for years and found if u have a good wax finish it will not harm the finish. It realy works great , I live in the desert and would have to wash the
Av every day if not for it.
;D

I use mine on the Black Avalanche, Black Monte Carlo SS and RED 36 Ford Street Rod.

It works perfect. The dirtier it gets, the better it seems to work. Washed it one time, had to dust neighbor's cars to get it to work right again.

Go for it.

Both the duster and the water blade work wonders. The older the duster the better it performs. These particular items are no strangers to the show car circuit. I have used both of them for well over 3 years and now and love it. No scratches and a lot less work then having to wash the vehicle constantly.

BTW. As previously mentioned, you need to make sure you have a very nice coating of wax or polish for these two tools to work their best. Hope this helps.

Siempre,

Thanks fellow Avalanche owners !! Guess I'll continue to use my duster and will purchase the squeegee to use when I wash it. The Zainos products will be my next major purchase. Later.

I use mine because of all the pollen that's in my area. As far as any scratches, I don't see anything, but then again, I have a white AV.

One thing I notice - is on very hot days (and on a dark or black vehicle) - that some of the wax on the duster will be left on the vehicle's surface. It doesn’t seem to cause any big problem - I just use a soft towel and buff the area a bit (very easy - just a wipe or two). This seems to be more of a problem with new or almost new dusters - after they get use a bit its not as much a factor. Also, I live in the desert (Las Vegas) so it get very hot here! Cheers, Jim

As others have stated, I think both products work well. I've used the duster on by Z3 roadster, and no scratches. I will echo what others have suggested and be sure to have a good coat of wax on the vehicle when using these product. Also, I use the duster for dust or pollen only. If the car has gotten wet and then dried again, I am reluctant to use it (I think of rubbing dried mud). Maybe just being overly cautious.

Cali Duster:

Works well on a dusty car. DO not use on very dirty car or mud. Follow directions from Calid Duster and will have no Problems. Works well on waxed or sealed paint the best. Shake out often to remove swirl inducing dirt. Can leave the parafin wax behind on surface which will smear on glass.

I prefer to use a Quick Detailer spray and a few micro fiber towels for daily dusting.

Cali Water Blade:

Can scratch if surface is not clean. Any micro dirt will be dragged across paint and cause swirl mark. They are great on windows and on shower walls. TO use blade drag acroos paint for about 3 feet than wipe blade with clean towel.

I prefer to use a leaf blower for drying.

So would a leaf blower with 215 mph work or would I need a more powerful blower to dry the Av ?

Any leaf blower will do. I use a gas one rated at 185 MPH I think.

Be careful though so the tip does not touch the paint anywhere. Start from the roof and work your way down. Get those nooks and crannies a bunch of times ecspecialy the side mirrors which are big time drippers!

Then I guess I need to be extra careful as my blower is electric !!

;Dthanks for the info on the california dusters, i have been looking at them for year and as stated by someone else above it just scared the hell out of me to drag something across the paint. Pep boys has them on sale for 9.99 i think i will swing by and pick one up.
i work in a port where they build rigs and alot of sand blasting going on, will it work on that or??????????????
I have been using clay magic on my black av and it works wonders with no scratches after pulling off overspray that dominates the area
ygmn, do you know of anything else i could use. i just bought one of those cajun micro fibre towels that was made in japan...go figure....i have only used it on the windows, kind of worried about just wiping it on truck with dust all over it..
zeeya

I have not seen a cajun Micro Fiber towel yet. There are many people selling them. The best deal I have found is from www.Neatitems.com ecspecially if you buy a hundred. (which I have)

As for the sand I would definately rinse it off. Sand is abrasive and any dragging of it on my paint would scare me to death. Too easy to scratch.

Clay magic is a great clay. I have used it and continue too. Recentlyt I received some samples from an employee of Mother's. I will be testing them out.

I bought one of these tonight at Sears....regular $14.99, sale price $9.99 and man you can't beat them. Works much better than I thought, especially for the top of the AV which is hard to reach. I highly recommend this item

My experiences with them is that over time they leave lots of very small scratches and marks especially
noticable on darker colors! When they tell you it will not scratch your paint, just look at all of them in use at car shows, just remember they have a lot harder paint than we do! Clear coat is VERY easily scratched!

IMHO Butch

I notices a few tiny scratches... but am happy overall with the duster. I keep a couple coats of wax on it anyway.

Sure beats washing it everyday

On black, besides scratches you are left with wax streaks. I have one, thought it was going to be great, hardly ever use it now

Sparky,

Have you tried leaving the duster spread out on a sheet of newspaper over night. This helps to absorb the oil in the duster so you don't get streaks.

I use mine and then follow up with some #6 Zaino Spray.
Sure saves a lot of water.

Califronia duster will work if used properly and stored properly.....

it works with parifin wax on the ruffle edges of the brush and will help remove dust....ikt should be dragged lightly very lightly with out bending the bristles......then when done you shake it out and store in a baggy so dust does not land on it.....

I would follow up with some Quick detailer though......

Also if hot out the CCD will streak on the paint.....due to heat.....
