I played a new CD and after at least 20 minutes the radio lost power very briefly and came back on with the radio instead of the CD and the clock reset to 12:00 AM. It happened again. I tried another CD although I couldn't imagine that I CD could cause this to happen. It looked physically perfect. The second CD played fine or at least 15 minutes. I put the 1st CD in on the track where I thought this happed before. It happened again after a couple of minutes. The next day, I tried the first CD again and it quick playing and the stereo locked up. It says track 4 on the display. The display stays bright all time. The display stays on when the truck in off for hours. No controls work. No sounds. No OnStar.

I stopped at the dealer late and only the service advisor was there. He removed the fuse momentarily and put it back in and it did not revive itself. He said he had never seen this before and to bring it in and they will probably take the radio out to be repaired. I think I'll try leaving the fuse out longer today.

It is an 03 w/o Bose with OnStar w/o changer. I've only put 1500 miles on it. It had 2500 when I bought it. I play CDs most of the time and never had any trouble until this CD.

No, the CD can not directly cause the problem you are having. This is definately a warranty issue since the head unit is toast. I can not say why this happened but playing a CD will not cause this. Hopefully your dealer can get one shipped and put in quick.

DO a search in this section for RADIO LOSING TIME.....

Seems many 2002 had this problem of radio messing up

I left the fuse out for about and hour before putting it back in . . . and wa-lah . . . my stereo returned to life. I'm going to try that CD in the house and use different CDs when I drive and see if I have any trouble.

The radio either needs a software update, or you have a defective unit. There is an issue with the computer in the radio reseting under certain circumstances. Get the radio reprogrammed with the software that reduces chime volume (that should do it).

See if your CD is using one of those 'new' copy protection schemes that lock up computers all the time. Keep a Paperclip handy to get it out and put it in your computer. If it locks the computer on track 4 again it's the CD.
