Can I get a custom grille without a bowtie?

Well, folks. Bad luck truly happens in 3s.

1) My roomate's girlfriend had her 6 month old parked volvo get backed into by a drunk driver (I even heard it at midnight, but couldn't get outside in time). No note, just a long gash across both doors! She's out her deductible. :8:

2) :E: My new Avlanche (1500, Z71, 4.10 gear ratio, dark grey metallic without body armor) got rearended in stop and go LA traffic by a- get ready for this- a female CLOWN (pink wig, face paint, and custome and all) driving a late 80's 4 door mercedes. After my 1 week old baby was struck, I got pushed into a nice looking mid 90's infiniti. Suffice to say, my new AV is now damaged goods, but you should have seen the state of the other cars. The mercedes front end jack knifed so she couldn't even see out of the driver's side and the infiniti's trunk, back bumper, and back panels are completely smashed. The AV actually withstood both blows pretty well. The thing is a tank. Back right bumper is toast and pushed into the body. Tailgate is off the hinges. Front end, right tow bar is bent 90 degrees and the front bumper and grille needs to be replaced due to thick scrathes and cracks. The body shop is going to pull the whole thing apart, get it elevated and check for any possible damages or structural tweeks. I'm really going to make that clown's insurance pay through their big red nose!

3) So I warn my other roomate to be careful about his new Xterra (his first new car in 8 years). And wouldn't you know, I warned the wrong roomate. This time, my fourth roomate, who substitute teaches in the more sketchy parts of LA (south central- real gang territory) had his little early 90's honda STOLEN. My roomate, who is barely getting by while getting his masters in English, now has to totally change his lifestyle and slow down his masters to make car payments. He ended up leasing a new golf (no money down and light payments).

All in all, I might have been the luckiest of the three misfortunes (all occuring within a 72 hour period!). I have been cleared of any wrongdoing and won't have to pay a dime out of pocket. I'm making sure that the insurance company is paying 100% to get my AV back to how it was the day I drove it off the lot... perhaps with a silver lining...

Here is where I need your help. While I have to replace the front grille, I might as well make a modification I was planning on making eventually. I would like to get a billet grille. Now, my question is that I've noticed most of the billet grille's attach OVER the existing grille. Are there any billet grilles that actually replace the old one altogether (as this one is damaged)? Also, I would like to get a billet grille without the bowtie :B: emblem. It's not that I'm a chevy hater (hardly), i just think a truck looks really clean with just those straight horizontal lines on the grille. Does anyone know where I can get a billet grille with these 2 specifications????

Any leads would greatly be appreciated!!

I think there is a thread in the mods section on how to put a billet grille in place of the factory one.... as for one without the bowtie, I think that's a little tougher. If I'm not mistaken, the bar running across the middle is a pretty big part of everything up front.

If you read most of the grille replacement threads (some of them have good step by step pictures) you will see that the power bar (the part with the bow tie on it) is actually one piece that separates the headlights and indicators and provides to lower grille facia.

I'm guessing to remove it would be a task for a panel shop and then your billet grille wont work because they come in two halves to match the OEM grille which of course has the power bar.

So in short you are going to need some custom modification work done on your grille and a custome grille to match.

BTW I have retitled this thread to make it more descriptive of the content.

Thanks for all of the information. I have checked out the step by step thread of replacing the grille- but it had the chevy bowtie emblem on it so it was helpful, but not completely what I was looking out for. I was having a hard time finding any info. on a grille sans bowtie. I will check out the rest of the threads.

To the last post, I think that because my AV is WBH, it might be able to accept Silverado / Sierra grilles ( I thought I read this somewhere on a web-site???). I'm not a truck whiz, so I apologize if I seem a bit lacking in my knowledge of these types of things.

But thanks for the info. When I get home from work I will check out as many threads as possible.

Thanks,

walshie's post made me remember this. I was at Home Depot about 2 month's ago and saw a Chevy Crew Cab with a Cadillac EXT nose installed. Don't know if he had to replace the entire doghouse or not, but it looked factory. I actually had a double take... "Hey, Cadillac doesn't make a crew cab!!"

Your best bet may be to look into this type of conversion. Also check with JP Custom - I know he has a Denali front end conversion ($2K) and said that the Cadillac was coming soon.

Hope it helps,
Steve

I think you'd probably have to change your hood to the GMC hood. Plus change your whole light assembly. This would be a cool mod, and I like the idea, but I truly don't think it's worth the hastle. Get the Billet grille and then either paint the chrome bar or paint the bowtie.

Have you considered a Billet or Chrome Bowtie?

ok, I belive that the grill he is looking for is a phantom billit grille, basically you remove your grill, power bar and all, and the billet replaces everything. I have seen these in different sport truck mags. I dont really care for them, but I guess alot of people do, as they have been making them for over a decade, and still going.

I do not belive these are availible for the AV. I could be wrong, but I am yet to see an add or a show truck with this done. I know that you will never see one for cladded Av's because of where our hood release is.

With regards to changing the front end to a GMC or Caddy, you will have to replace the fenders, hood, bumper, grill, headlamps... etc etc etc...

Regards,

Grey_Av

EDIT: here is the type of grill I belive he is looking for.

On a regular AV the hood latch is behind the bowtie. Not sure if you could remove the stock grill/bowtie and replace it without the hood latch being in the way. I'm not sure if a WBH has the hood latch in the same place...HTH.
