Canadian Pricing - '03 2500 With SNVPPP

GUEST
I am seriously thinking about ordering a 2500 with the Supplier New Vehicle Purchase Program Plus. I am advised that this entitles me to a purchase price equal to dealer invoice plus 4%. Based upon the numbers supplied by one of the local dealers, I would be paying $50,332 on an MSRP of $54,650. New interest rates came out today which, for a 30 month lease, equals 4.4%. I would also be entitled to any stackable credits which may come out between now and delivery (which they say will be in the last 2 weeks of December if I order one Monday) or any more favourable lease rates which may be released. Assuming that I could find what I like in stock in December, do you think I might be able to do better then? In the past, I have been able to have $7,500 knocked off an MSRP of $52,500 when shopping in December. The other thing is that I only have one vehicle, with the lease coming up December 16. I will have to rent if the Av comes in after December 16, if I order it now as opposed to seeing what's available in stock in December.

Do I wait until December and take my chances on what's available, or do I get exactly what I want by ordering it now, at possibly a higher price and a delivery sometime after December 16?

By the way, I really want a 4:10 rear axle, charcoal leather interior, a sunroof and limited slip differential. I'm not sure if it will be difficult finding a 2500 in stock with these items in December or not.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Hey Mtnbkr.....You shouldn't have any problem finding what you want at Christmas! But I would make sure you are getting the same price for something you get off the lot as opposed to a factory order. With employee discounts you get the best deal with a factory order and a vehical off the lot is usually a bit more. Thats how it works for me and I am an elligable employee.

Thanks for the response NatsCanAv. I think you get a better deal with your employee purchase plan than I do with the supplier plan, but I assume that the principal is the same.

Do you know whether a dealer in Calgary will track down a vehicle somewhere else in Canada if they have nothing here, for no additional cost? My concern is that I will likely be without a vehicle for a couple of weeks when my lease expires Dec. 16, since I have waited so long to do a factory order. If I could get what I wanted for the same price without ordering one now but simply going to a dealer in December, that would be ideal. Anyway, I think you have probably already answered my question as fully as possible and I thank you for your comments. On the other hand, any further wisdom would be much appreciated.

Mtnbkr.... I don't know what the difference in the plans are but,I'm sure that if you ask them to find you one to your spec's they should comply. I don't believe there is any exrtra charge for a dealer locate of a certain vehical...Hope this helps!

I have had to wait 10 weeks for my '03 2500 with 4.10's and medium leather interior and sunroof to be delivered through a Canadian dealer in Halifax. ?The 4.10's had to be ordered and nobody had stocks of the black colour that I wanted alonh with my requested options. ?I think you need to weigh up how fussy you are likely to be in December, if you have a really specific wish list you may not find a lot of choices in the 2500.

Although I don't know what the dealer cost actually is, I am surprised that your discount isn't lower. I would think that you should be able to get at least 10% off the list price. Is the dealer markup on Avalanches that low up here in Canada?? I wouldn't think so. I wonder what kind of a deal you would get by going through the fleet dep't. rather than the regular sales people. The last time I ordered through the fleet dep't . they charged me dealer cost plus $400, but that was about 4 years ago. There was no negotiating at all. That may have changed by now.

We are close to being in the same boat, trying to decide when to buy and as to whether to go off the lot or order.

As far as the 4.10 rear end goes, every Avalanche I have seen on the lot here in Calgary has had a 4.10 rear end. I have a feeling you would need to special order a 3.73 rear -end, so I imagine getting a 4.10 shouldn't be hard, although there aren't that many 2500's on the lots. I guess it all comes down to getting exactly what you want. I think for spending $50 grand on a vehicle, you wouldn't want to "settle" for something else.

Have you ever checked some of those online website that would give you what the dealer cost is for certain vehicles? I plan on going that route before we actually buy to see what kind of a markup they have. I think they cost around $35-40 but it might be worth it in the long run.

Saint,

I am told by the Calgary dealers that there are lots of 3:73's in stock, since people still insist on them.

The salesguy I'm dealing with told me that the dealer cost for a full load 2500 is $48K plus incidentals (doc fee, air and tire tax, etc.). He says he will (and must) show me the dealer invoice. The MSRP is $54,650. I can get the vehicle for a little over $50K, resulting in a discount of about $4,500 or a little under 10% of dealer cost or 8% of MSRP, and a premium above dealer cost of about $2K. He tells me that his dealership will not sell a vehicle to the hardest bargainer for less than that, under any circumstances.

I haven't tried the fleet people (who I dealt with on my last vehicle which I got for dealer cost plus $400 - but it was a Jeep).

I am only aware of one 2500 in Calgary right now - the LPM I posted yesterday, which is at Shaganappi. Let me know if you are aware of others as well.

I can vouch for the above, the dealer invoice on my '03 2500 (which I have a copy of) was $46,886.00 when freight, airtax etc was added it came to $47,985.00 with the MSRP listed as $54,565.00. My 2500 is loaded with everything except on-star, XM radio & block heater.

I'll keep my eyes open for you. All of the Av's I 've seen had 4.10 gears, although all but one were 1500's and one 2500 like you want, but that was a few weeks ago. I'll keep my eyes open for you.

I would definitely try the fleet route, it can't hurt to ask. It seems like we aren't going to be getting quite the deals like our friends down south are getting.

Saint,

I've checked more closely now. Shaganappi has 2 2500's in stock - a black one and a LPM one, both with 3.73 rear ends. The salesguy told me that most people prefer the 3.73 with the 8.1 since power isn't an issue with that engine (I still don't quite understand this rationale).

Anyway, I've now talked to the fleet lease guys at a number of dealers and they say they need 9 to 12 weeks for a factory order (which is a big problem for me) and that there is nothing on order that I can intercept or in stock in Calgary even close to what I want. They said that my dealer cost plus 4% deal "puts us in the range so that we can talk". They all said that I'm dreaming to think there is any chance of dealer cost plus $400 or $500. The salesguy I'm dealing with told me unequivocally (so it must be true, right?) that I would not do 1 cent better with their fleet guy than 4% over dealer cost.

I am confirming my factory order for about $1,950 over cost tomorrow. I am praying for stackable credits to come out November 20 (which is when the next GM Canada promotion begins). I understand that I will get the best deal between the time a serial number is assigned to the vehicle, and delivery, including any rebates. They promise me that I'll have the vehicle before the new year, as long as we order before November 1.

As it stands, although I do not have to decide yet, I am inclined to go for the 30 month lease at 4.4%, nothing down, no security deposit and with GM sucking up the first payment.

I turtled on the blue and am ordering black instead. Three dealers told me that they don't expect the Arrival Blue to last more than this year and one said that he thinks it will be cancelled before the 03 run is done. The dealer I am ordering from is so freaked out on the Blue that he wanted a bigger deposit than for any other colour (on the basis that he would have trouble getting rid of it if I caved). I went safe with black (although I will now have my work cut out for me).

Skidd,

What were you able to get for a sale price? Was XM even available from a Canadian dealer (it's not available in Calgary)? Did you get the DVD, sunroof or either?

This is what I found as well... I couldn't find a dealer with a 2500 that had 4.10's, I had to order one as none of them would change the diffs either.

I got the sunroof but no XM (your right, it wasn't on my list of available options). Because I got the sunroof that excluded the DVD option. :(

I had the same issue with a deposit, I wanted to order the truck without the Bose stereo (fitting a better one here in Oz) and was told that I would have to pay a hefty deposit on the truck 'cos if my deal fell through a dealer would never be able to sell a leather interior, sunroof etc etc truck that only had the standard radio on board. I chickened out and paid the extra $934.00CAD for the premium stereo, I figured that I'll need something to put back into it when I sell it and take out my A/V system.

I still don't have the build or shipping dates, but at least I have made a step forward. (y)

As I said before the "dealers invoice price" for the above vehicle was $47,986.00CAD with all the taxes paid. Of course I've added a long list of accessories to that as well...

Hood protector, side window vents, vehicle cover, 145 amp alternator, hot/cold beverage console, rear seat cover and front end cover (bra).

Skidd,

Am I missing something here? I still don't see what you're paying. Are you reluctant to say?

Sorry mate, not reluctant... just stoopid! :2:

I missed the jist of what you were asking, even though I don't know how you could have been more direct. The answer to your question actually isn't that straight forward.

See I have been negotiating my price through an exporter who is doing the shipping to Australia for me, and he is actually getting the av through a dealer so my price may infact be a bit higher than you should be able to get. I've been told that my "landed" cost here in Australia will be no more than MSRP. Given that freight and insurance is normally about $5,000.00CAD this makes my purchase price about $49,565.00CAD. But I really won't know the exact price untill I get the invoice from the exporter.

I'm sorry if all that info doesn't help you negotiate yourself a good price, I was really only trying to let you know what I had on my paperwork for "dealers invoice price" and "MSRP".

Good luck with your negotiations. (y)
