Canvas 'Topper'

Some of us talked about this awhile back. I was going to look into engineering one (possibly salavage something from a Jeep) but I just haven't had the time to actually do anything about it.

... seems to build these custom soft tops. It would be very interesting if they could cater to the special features of the AV (side boxes, sails) and also conform to the 'change for a buck' attitude of the AV; perhaps making it easy enough to change from Soft top to tonneau in less than 30min.

Any of my CA brothers want to stop by their place? How about putting together some official CAFCNA inquiry?

What about aluminum tubing bent to fit into the hole in the handhold at the back of the truck, and fastened at front with a bracket to the top of the sail. Boar-Ral designed and fab'd a flag bracket that would take the stress of full speed on the highway.

I bought a soft top from a company called Best top for my 83' Blazer a long time ago. I'll do a search and see if they are still around.

Can Back guys are great...I spoke to them about donating a top for me to use in a ChevyTruck display I was working on. They told me an AV owner in California wanted one added and they ere working on a design. Wonder how they are coming along?

Best top is still around, I doubt that they make anything for the av but is worth a try. FWIW they make tops for k5 blazers, landcruisers and Jeeps.

And they may have a more business in the future....K% Blazer concept has been developed and word is even tested....time will tell

Hmmm...I just sent Canback an email asking when I could buy an Avalanche top (thinking positive ;) )and "Charley" replied that they have no plans to offer one.

The more people that ask for these items from these manufactures, the more chance we have of getting stuff built, so email these guys and ask. If enough people ask then something might get made. I trader a Intrepid R/T in for my AV and when i first got it there was nothing available. Now after 3 years manufactures are building stuff. So if you see a product you would like, ask for it.

Would anyone be interested in a softside topper option? For those, "Quick it's going to rain and cargo is taller than 2'," But can't afford a Snugtop. I've been investigating options with local manufacturers for options and cost. But I guess I should ask to see if I'm the only one who thought about this.

My problem was when I went hunting with 3 buddies and a dog and trying to stuff all of our gear in the back with the cover on since it was zero out and snowing. Needless to say every nook and cranny was stuffed full.

Merged your post into the original one on a soft topper......

I think the info in here may be helpful

I've emailed both softtopper.com and can back and only softtopper responded. They seemed interested in doing one but needed ideas on how to attach it to the truck and i didn't have time to take mine apart yet to help them. maybe if there is someone near them that can take their truck to them they might work something. If anyone can or has ideas on how to attach this i will forward the guys email to them.

Maybe it could attach to where the bed covers attach...this way you get the full use of side bins.....

Where are they located?

I too have emailed Softtopper.com. They told me the same thing about how to attach it to the AV. I also mentioned to them the front of the topper should be openable for times when the midgate is down. I may be pointing out the obvious but I wanted to mention it just in case. It seems one of the other considerations would be covering up the openings in the sails.

Is there anything else they should concider if they decide to pursue a softtopper for the AV?
