cargo area deviders.....they are probably called something else but I can't imagine what. ?in the carog area of the av there are notches to insert a 2X6 or a 2X4 to devide the cargo area into sections. ?I have considered using a 2X6 but have concerns ?that the sharp rigid ends of the 2X6 may in time wear a hole into the plastic siding of the cargo area.

I am wondering if there is a plastic 2X6 that may have rounded edged on the ends that also may be more forgiving than a rigid 2X6.

Anybody have any thoughts or ideas?

My wife is tired of the groceries rolling to the front of the bed. ?I tell her to quit driving like some crazed wild woman. ?That just makes her smile and her eyes twinkle a little.

Once I talked the wife into getting an av, I started looking at the z66 for the smooth ride package. ?My wife says z71 or nothing. ?Me being Mr. Flexable, I gave in. ?She is generally gone all day when she buys groceries. ?I think the wife goes out rock climbing or terrace hopping on the way home from the grocery store. ?

I leave a large box in the back of the bed...then when i go grocery shopping or such...i put the stuff in the box...and with the anti skid pad...it doesnt move. ?But like you and your wife...I am thinking of installing something to utilize more space...but for now...the box...or milk crate works fine.

Could also just round off the edges of the 2x4 with a file, router, sanding block etc.
Since I've got some trex laying around after building my deck I made dividers a while ago...

I went to Home Depot, got a 10 foot long 2 X 4 - had it cut to 52" (or was it 52-1/2" ? ) and put the two peices in the slot that is forward. You can put about six bags of groceries their perfectly and then drive like a mad man, it's not going anywhere. I wish the General had put it about a foot further back. BTW - the same 2 X 4 pieces could be used to load a second tier in your Av. With that said if you go with 2 X 6 (I asked myself the EXACT same questions as you) you won't be able to do double duty so why carry around extra wood. Also - if you go off-road, you can use the cut planks as cribbing in a pinch.

I'll take some pics of what I did and post...

Hey guys, you gave a number of interesting choices on keeping cargo snug and secure.
Let me add my solution (for what is worth!).
I found a plastic box (with optional 4 wheels at the corners) at the local WalMart. Approx size is 32x18x21 and cost the paltry amount of $14! Tied with a small bungee and now if I have to carry small items I unhook the bungee, slide the box forward on its wheels and nothing will ratlle in the bed.
Inexpensive and worth a try! See picture.
(Love this forum!). Gian.

Sorry, it seems that the picture was not posted, I'll try again.

?Those expandable cargo bars like rocknZ66 described are great. It installs removes in seconds, can be put at any position and is cheap.
?I got a 5x7 tarp(those $1.99 jobs) and wrapped the last 8" or so around the bar(so the grommets line up to tie it off). Then the loose end goes toward the tailgate and the end grommets will slip over the bottom tie offs.(i.e. the tarp hangs down from the bar to the mat, then lays on the mat back to the tailgate).
?I'm able to load stuff on the tarp, and then can unload by pulling the tarp toward me.Plus it keeps the bed clean of garbage leaks, etc. >:D >:D

People around this part of the country are building those white rail fences that are manufactured out of white plastic. The rail parts are exactly 2X6. I wonder if they make black or grey. I think I will check around and see what they cost compared to a wooden 2X6.

Hey...my first post...Had the problem with the groceries rolling around the back also...though for a while that is what my 7yr old was for..to crawl in and retrieve....I decided to buy the GM bed extender (flip out cage to cover tail gate) well in the folded position markes a nice storage area for the groceries...with midgate down and extender out can haul upto 10'

I have 3 collapsable plastic crates. They are about 14"Wx19"Lx9"D...kinda like long milk crates. When not in use, they fold down to about 2" deep and can easily be set out of the way. These work great for groceries or whatever...you can even carry the crates inside saving a few trips! I bought mine at Target, since they have some that sorta match my Av...blue and gray. I have also seen some at Wal-Mart that are all black.

My wife has those in her Explorer and they work well. She always has c--p, I mean stuff, in them.

I use the Sterilite "Desert" colored containers to keep stuff from rolling around in my bed. The color is a close match to LPM. They also reduce the number of trips from the truck to the house on grocery day. ;)
