Anybody tried icing down their favorite beverages in a cargo box? I did but ice didn't last very long. Anybody try to insulate the cargo box? Just wondering. It's a perfect place for icing things down.....already has a drain & everything.......Tbender

Do a search, it has beed discussed at length.

Welcome to the club.

YEAH...do what he said!

if your looking for info on:

DRL's
Wheel/tire combo's
stereo upgrades
neon
Lifting/lowering your vehicle
Local gtg?
What the hell does "gtg" mean?
etc...

do a search bro! It's all here! Just have to go find it. Welcome to the club!! Glad I could help out!!!

Mud!

Ditto to what Mud said ;)

THANKS to everyone that posts links to topics they know they have seen. That helps out so much! And all this coming from non-mods...

Oh, back to the topic... Monday I will post my pictures and details of my insulation mod for the cooler back on that main topic that was linked in the second post or so. Just so you know, it was kind of a PITA (pain in the rear) and I didn't get all sides insulated (outside of cargo box). Details after I post it over at CA, then I will post at least a link or so back here.

Mud,
Don't let your hang-ups become an issues for others. If you don't like my reply, go pound mud.

I helped him by telling him that if he did a search, he could find the info. Do I have to hold his hand too? I see nothing rude about it. Rude would have been me not saying anything.

HAHAHA...is that YGMN in disguise?

do a search? I would have posted links but wild took care of it.

....

Not dogging you king, it's just a pet peeve of mine. Ever since i first came here there would be newbies askin for advice and such. Then someone would say.."do a search, it's been discussed"

Is that helping? No...does it make a newb feel welcomed? NO...does it even justify the energy and time it took to post "do a search?" I don't think.

Now, it is a moderator or admin who does this...that's just plain pitiful! That's their job! To help people on the forum. If anything, they can post and explain "HOW" to do a search. Some newbs don't even know that is available.

Sorry...just seems a little rude to me. It's like someone askin' a question and me replying..."yes, i know..but i dont' have the time or feel like telling you. Look it up"

May as well not post anything at all for that matter. If one doesn't have anything good/helpful to say, then dont' say it at all.

Sooo...all you newbs out there. As you become more knowledable from this site and you come across someone asking a question you KNOW has been discussed, don't get into the bad habit of being lazy and simply replying..."do a search"

Ok...who wants the soapbox now? LOL

Mud!

and to keep it on topic -

What will help a bit is to plug the holes. That way when the ice melts the cold water will remain thus keeping it chilly inside.

What to plug them with? well..do a search, it's been discussed. BUUAHHHHAHA...j/k. Some use earplugs, or some waterproof foam type. Could probably calk it, but I'd say you want to use something you can remove without much effort.

Mud!

Way to step up and tell them, Mud!!! (y)...I Second and Third what Mud was Saying. We as a family so to speak need to help the newbe's coming in with every question answered if possible. Telling them to do a search doesn't help if they aren't familiar with our site.

I know if I were just coming into the site and I asked a question, and someone told me to do a search...I rip em' a new one. I wouldn't care if I were new or not. :7: We need to concentrate on retaining or recruiting people instead of pi$$ing them off with a stupid comment like that.

The Moderator's need to pay special attention to the Newbe's. Like Mud said and I agree...It's your Freaking Job....If you don't want to help...Pass the torch.

For the rest of us who know the answer to the posters question...Answer it, don't forget you were new at one time too....Just answer it!!!....It takes just as much time to post the answer as it does to post "Do a search"

Two thumbs up for Mud!!! (y) (y)

Oh yeah, Back on the subject....Put Rock Salt in the Ice and It will stay frozen longer...

First week I had the AV I went camping, christened the side bin "the beer conditioner". http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=23936;start=msg373394#msg373394

GoBot,

So, are you in charge of making the rules for how we should post or reply to a post? Are you setting the standard?

Are you the Emily Post of CAFCA etiquette?

Do you think your comment about rock salt is being helpful?

1. We are not a family; we are a group of people that share a common interest.

2. If my son asked me a question and I knew where he could find the answer, I would tell him where to find it. I wouldn't hold his hand and find the answer for him. I would rather empower than enable.

3. We are dealing with adults here, not infants. We don?t need to coddle them and make them feel warm and fuzzy. Maybe you need to feel this way, don?t project it onto to others.

Too many people cling to this site like a surrogate family. Get real, it is a website, don?t turn it into the Oprah Show.

It's comments and attitude like this that keep people from staying on this site...Not once did I point a finger, nor did I imply that this is the way it should be done, but only made a strong suggestion that we as You put; " a group of people that share a common interest" should help one another instead of pointing out the obvious. "Do a Search".

I'm sure that most "Adults that visit this site can find there way around, but instead of being impersonal and saying "DO A SEARCH"...I elect to help out a Brother.....(Which I consider part of "MY FAMILY").

As far as my suggestion on Rock Salt....It does Work!!!...If you don't believe me, do a "Search"...It's labeled under KI$$ my A$$ :7:

Hangman

PS.....I wonder how must of us feel about this statement: Too many people cling to this site like a surrogate family. Get real, it is a website, don?t turn it into the Oprah Show.

It may work, but will it weaken your plastic? I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Chevy would support your comment.

Mr. Helpful, did you do a test on the effects or rock salt on the plastic Chevy uses for the bin?

Maybe someone from your "family" will sue you when thier cargo bin cracks and the contents spews onto the road causing an accident.

Ah, I Have tested it...

Ah, I've been doing it for about two years now...

Ah, I see no signs of Wear what so ever...If there is concern, use a garbage bag as a liner.

LOL...I see I insulted you. I was just trying to be helpful. Majority of members here hate when one posts..."do a search". Really, makes no sense.

but i guess i am expecting too much here...

gobot,

No need to continue an arguement. It's impossible to instill manners in someone who's been raised/conditioned otherwise.

No, I just didn't like you telling me that I was wrong to post my comment. My comment was valid and correct. It just wasn't to your liking......but nobody asked for your opinion.

You'd have to do a lot more than blather to insult me.

What's funny is...I specifically mentioned that the post was NOT about you personally. You however took it personally.

Case closed...people need to read before they open thier mouth.

*edited my post because I thought my original one may insult people. Don't want to do that! I've changed it to a more productive and helpful nature for all the newbs here thay may come across it.

Mud, Your original post had my name in it, and it was directed at me. Odd how you changed it.

Nice to see you are not MAN enough to stand behind your words.

Go back to your sandbox and play with the kids.

Now you mention it...glad I brought it up.....you are welcome.

Here's my 0.02:

I joined this "Family" here in December ('03). The more and more I got to "know" my fellow "Avalanchers" I knew they could be counted on when I had a question. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing "Do a search"...it helps in no way at all. Well, unless you didn't know there was that option. The only thing that helps is the number of posts that you have done. If everyone just did a search for info, then what is the point of all these forums. There isn't....unless it is to constantly do searches until you find the one piece of info you've been looking for for the last hour. It's time wasted. I've done several searches on a topic, just to find something simple.

For those that post links....PROPS TO YOU! Most of the time the specific topic isn't even mentioned in the main title!

Back to the topic at hand now....I honestly haven't used the cooler yet for what it was intended for. I never thought about the ice melting quickly. But since the weather is getting warmer, this topic has been brought to my attention. Also, I wouldn't worry about the Rock Salt because I live in Upstate NY. With the amount of salt that NY piles on the roads. Oh, and if you do do this with Rock Salt....and for some freak chance your plastic cracks. I don't think a case would hold up in the court of law because you read something on the internet.....but then again....you'd have to do a search for that kind of info.....

Guys, I really do hate to bring this thread back on topic, but I did post my insulation mod to the coolers back in the AV as a cooler thread.

OK, back to the fight. Do we call this round 2 yet?

Do I jump into the ring by editing this post to say "I posted info, do a search" rather than posting the link?

Come on guys, nothin but  for y'all.

I do not wish to fuel this debate but though if you were interested I would give my $.02. I understand both sides but must admit I do appreciate it when some one takes the time to help me by posting links. The sight has many posting in it and at times I can not find what I am looking for so I ask. To tell someone to look it up is non productive. Has was stated we are not children and should not be treated as such.

My other concern is that these arguments and name calling are becoming more frequent and counter productive. With GM deciding if we can continue using there logo and merchandise I would think that we would be on our best behavior.

No figure pointing just concerned.

the original post is still there in someone elses post..and yes is specifically says your name. But read it carefully.

Kids? is that your attempt to prolong this situation by trying to inflict insult? My friend, look in the mirror. I doubt you like what you see.

Sorry YGMN...(hmmm notice he hasn't replied feeling hurt and insulted. And you KNOW he read the post because he READS ALL THE POSTS.)

Mud!

Gadget great work...I'm following it somewhere else.
