While I'm having to wait over the weekend to reach Durakon customer service, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem installing their Cargo Pro. If so, I'd appreciate your advice on what to do.
All four of the "J" brackets packed with my Cargo Pro are identical (the J brackets are the four pieces that hold the Cargo Pro base in the truck, using factory bolt holes for attachment). The two at the rear (tailgate end) line up perfectly and pull in flush with the factory cargo hook base, as intended, when the bolt is installed through each one. However, in the front, the J brackets cannot mate up with the cargo hook bases because the plastic cladding (on the interior vertical wall of the pickup bed) has a nearby projection that interferes with the J bracket before it can get close enough to mate up (in other words, the factory cargo hook assembly is installed in a bit of a recess or pocket). I end up with about a 3/4" gap on each side with the J bracket hitting the cladding rather than seating on the cargo hook base. It's obvious that if I tried to tighten up the bolt, the protruding part of the cladding would be crushed.
It appears to me that the front J brackets must have a different design from those in the rear in order to attach properly. The installation instructions, however, do not mention any difference between front and rear J brackets.
Help! What's going on here? What a frustration to be unable to complete a simple installation!
