I know there are plenty of people out there that have put CB's in their big ol' trucks . The question i have is where and how did ya mount the whip? I made a mod with my last AV but it was not a very good one and pretty weak. just hoping someone out there has a wonder soulution for me out there and where to put this thing without makin the wife get that crazy look in here eye when i say the word "DRILL" ??? ??? :0:

I mounted my antenna behind the cowl on the driver's side. Opposite of the radio antenna. I made my own bracket that utilizes existing bolts and did not have to drill any holes at all.

Here is a picture from the outside.

No problem!! If you have any questions about mounting it there, let me know.

Here is another pic of the bracket by itself. The bar is actually an antenna mount that I bought at Flying J, and the other piece I fabricated with two small metal brackets I bought at OSH. It's a very low resolution pic, but hopefully you can see what I did there.

Chicken band, like any LoVHF needs a lot of ground plane. Mirror mounts and side mounts make the antenna's radiating pattern directional, has a higher VSWR and needs the work-arounds to compensate for it. Don't just install it for looks and walk away!

I am using the AUGM2-L from wearecb.com

http://wearecb.com/au.htm

mounts up quick.... went to have it SWR'd as soon as I installed it with a 3' firestick on a heavy duty spring, and a cobra all-in-one CB radio... and it metered at 1.5....

I think it is a fairly sturdymount....

You can see it in some of my pics but never really took any direct shots of the mount installed... click the link in my sig to see....

and no there is not an AUGM2-R... so only on drivers side.... I asked about one so I could run co-phase but it is not made.....

oh... on the saugaro gtg Album in my pics there is a photo I took from the drivers seat that shows its referance to your view while driving...

You might want to consider FireStik antennas (FireFly and FireFlyII). They work great on no-ground plain situations (truck mirrors, motorcycles, boats, etc). So, putting them on the top of the sail would be an ideal (and way cool looking) place to put them. Plus, they are tuned via a screw on the end instead of having to cut the mast when setting the SWR.

FireStik

Same bracket as the one renorcr mentioned.... just different source....

The guys at "We Are CB" said they make the part themselves.... but don't know if this is true or if they were just blowing smoke...

I contemplated this, but you do not get as good of a reception with the no ground mounts... (I asked opinions on here as well back in July....) I was actually thinking of getting the sail panel windows (plexiglass) and mounting the antenna to them... but after finding out how they were made (the windows) I figured they would not take the abuse of the antenna....

Fiberglass Antenna's you do not cut to tune... at least with any of the FireStik's I have had in the past... got a screw on the top you tune with.... just make sure you check the SWR with the screw cover back on... cause that little cover can change this....

I don't know much about CB radios, but you might look into the rack mounts that txavy uses for his bike/basket rack. He has a custom bracket that screws under the hand grip in the back corners of the bed. He might be able to rig one up that will hold your antenna. There are some pictures of the txavy rack and brackets in another forum.

I recall he helped one member with a custom set up using the front rack mounts...

hi have you got your cb antenna on yet if not i have on lacation on your truck

Hey MikesTNF,

Does your antenna cause wind noise?  I mounted mine in the same position and I get wind noise from it (it's not a lot but I liked the Avy for its ride and noise level compared to a silverado).  I am using a Firestick II whereas yours looks to be the skinnier Firefly. (I wanted a 2 footer to keep the finished height under 7ft)

I added a spring to get rid of some vibration, but the noise is still there.  The only thing I can think of to try next is a bug shield on the front to create a different airflow, but was wondering what your experience has been.

doug494,

I have a two footer firestick scanner ant w/spring on the front and no noise. But I do have a bug shield.

Nothing works as well as a wilson 1000 directly center of the of roof. And a nice kicker .And a good radio with a swing kit.  10-4    I have a magnet mount Wilson and run 1kw of power. I use an import radio.....Connex 3300 .I have many combo's and I found that one and a half watts swingin to 1000 watts is about all my AV can take without getting the computer all messed up.....
