Charged twice for Trailering package or not ?

I just bought a 04 Z66 which comes with a trailering package.
The window sticker also had the Texas Edition option.
With the Texas Edition I got a $1000.00 incentive or did I.

I asked if I was being charged 2 times for the trailering package and got this reply from the sales manger.
The Z66 does not have the hitch and the Texas edition adds it .
All the Z66's on the lot without the Texas option and without any other trailering package other then in the Z66 (PREFFERED EQUIPMENT GROUP) had hitchs.
I was then told that the Texas edition added the trannie cooling.
When asked to see any info on that it changed to your getting a
1000.00 back.
I asked if I am paying 405 for a luggage rack that only cost 195
then I am only getting a 790 incentive.
The answer was the only way you can get the Texas edition
is in combination with the Z66 (PREFFERED EQUIPMENT GROUP)
and that it somehow works out to be an additional 1000 off.
I went to Build it and am able to build an Avalanche without the
Z66 and with the Texas Edition.

Am I being charged for 2 trailering packages ?
Am I only getting $790 worth of incentive instead of the $1000 ?

That does look fishy but I have not looked at the new '04 to see what they include. Trailering package can mean differant things.

Butch

PS trailer package does not mean tranny oil cooler.....

PS welcome to the club......

You confuse me, but this is how it went with my 2004 - purchased last month.

PDE: Texas Edition - Includes (Z82) Trailering equipment, heavy-duty and (V54) Luggage rack. Cost $405 MSRP

1SZ: Texas Edition Discount - MSRP -$1,000 (rebate). My sticker listed this as a Preferred Equipment Savings.

So net would be a $595 rebate. In other words, a good deal - whether you have a boat or not.

When I purchased my 2004, there were some trucks that had the trailer hitch alone:

Z82: Trailering Package - Includes trailer hitch platform, 7-pin wiring connector. MSRP $210

These trucks had no rebate associated with the Z82. The dealer was a bit embarrassed that they purchased them. I mean - the package with roof rack has a net rebate of $595, but buy the hitch alone and it costs you $210. Go figure.

Oh, and there is no Preferred Equipment Savings associated with purchasing the Z-66 package alone. The $1,000 you listed has to be associated with the Texas Edition.

There is no auxiliary transmission cooler on these trucks, not even with the trailering package. You will have to add one if you want one.

i just took a look at my '02 Z-66 window sticker, and the Premium On-Road Package was very similar. most everything you mentioned except the power fold/ turn signal mirror. it does however list the ATC, automatic transmission cooler.
this package ($835) and the assist steps ($395) came to a total of $1230. looks like they raise the price a little for the mirrors.
btw, my Trailering Package was listed under standard euipment. which means that the truck had the hitch on it.

Z82 was part of all '02s, and I believe it's also part of any cladded '03+. The cladding is designed to have the hitch, looks somewhat goofy without it, so that adds to the need for it.

WBH doesn't have it standard, at least for '03

TriSailer.
I did save money, it was a good deal.
That's not the point.

The factory window sticker shows two trailer packages.
There is a trailer package in the $1335.00 option.
There is a trailer package in the $405.00 option.
I paid FULL price for both packages.

I only got one but paid FULL price for two.
OR
I got 2 totally different Trailer packages and just want to know what I got that you did not.

I know what I got that you did not.
I got the run around and out and out lies.

I would still buy the Texas Edition for the incentive.
It did save me money. I just got less than you did.
I got the roof rack and $1000.00 for $405.00
You got the roof rack, the trailering package and $1000.00 for $405.00

Somebody help me to understand.
PLEASE

Z66Pete

Ok, here is what you get with the Z-66 package, straight from Chevrolet's pricing detail:

1SN   Premium On-Road Package - Includes specially tuned springs and shocks, Traction Assist, locking rear differential, 17-inch wheels, P265/80R-17 all season tires, rubber floor mats

This MSRP's for $1,335. There is no trailering package included in this package. It is a separate option. That's what the Chevy pricing detail says, as well as the new brochure.

Now, I just pulled my sticker, and yep, it says "trailering package" in the detailed line of what is included in the Z-66 package, same as yours does. There is also a separate line for Texas Package. I don't understand this either, but I can tell you that there were Z-66's on the lot with trailering equipment and no roof racks on them, and they had a separate "Trailering Equipment" listing on them with a separate MSRP of $210.

If yours didn't have the separate entry for Trailering Equipment at $210 MSRP, you didn't pay for trailering equipment twice.

I think the only thing to realize is that the Z-66 package costs $1,335 MSRP. The Texas Edition is a net $595 credit ($495 cost, $1000 rebate). You "paid" for both, and got both.

Go to Chevrolet.com, and read what is included in a Z-66:

"Key standard features include everything standard on Avalanche 1500 plus:

Traction Assist
Specially tuned springs and shocks
Locking rear differential
Load-leveling rear suspension
17-inch wheels and tires
Deep-tinted rear window glass"

Don't know what else to tell you. Maybe the Z-66 "trailering equipment" refers to the steel bumper that has the holes drilled in it to accept the steel ball, if you knock out the plastic pieces. The low-weight rated way to tow a trailer. That probably qualifies as "trailering equipment" in Chevrolet's view.

But, I have never seen a high weight rated hitch and lights hookup on a Z-66, that also didn't include either the Texas package, or a separate line for Trailering Equipment, both with an associate MSRP (either $405 or $210, respectively).

You didn't get less than I did. Or pay for two and get one. Unless you would have been satisfied with the bumper ball arrangement, and didn't want the net $595 rebate on the Texas Edition.

This is what I got back from the Customer Relationship Manager

It looks like the trailering package is standard equip on the Z66.

If this is the case I paid for 2 and got 1.

Ok, it looks like they made a change, and added trailering package to the Z-66 package. (So much for their marketing expertise - you think they would advertise it on their website, or in their brochures!) But I still don't understand your "I paid for 2" logic. Put it this way - if you had not purchased the Texas Edition, you would not have gotten a roof rack, and the bottom line cost of the truck would be $595 more. Do you understand that? So, the net effect of you "paying for two" is that you paid less for the truck overall. The $1,000 rebate doesn't come without the $405 Texas Package. Go price out a truck without the roof rack, or with the roof rack purchased separately (which won't net you the $1,000 rebate), and then see how much MORE expensive the truck would be.

I'm glad you found that the Z-66 including the trailering platform, etc. Will be good to know for people who don't want the roof rack, and don't want a net $595 rebate for having one.

Finally, if you still think you've "paid for two and got one", consider if you went to small claims court, and had to explain to a judge what your damages are. What additional money did you have to pay for the truck as an overall result of having purchased both options: Z-66 and Texas Edition. Hmmm, $595 in your pocket. Who's going to see that as you "paying" for something you didn't get. If there's no money out of your wallet for it, then it's hard for me to understand your feeling that you "paid" for it. And hard for me to understand what your gripe is here (and certainly what your "damages" would be).

Alternatively, go back to your dealer, and tell them that you are unsatisfied with your purchase. That you "paid for two, and got one. So please delete the Texas Edition from my purchase." They can probably remove your roof rack, and will gladly take the $595 back from you, I suspect. And then sell the roof rack to someone else that didn't get one with their initial purchase. I'm sure that would make them happy.

Or you could keep the Texas Edition, and have them remove the Z-66 package.

YES cladded Avs look rather goofy without the trailering package, but NO Z82 was not standard on any '03, cladded or not, Z66/Z71 or not.

Pete,

I did some checking of stickers (on-line), and tried to find a truck listing the Z-66 and separate purchased roof rack, to see whether it got the $1000 rebate.

Notice that the above truck has no $1000 rebate (which is listed as a "50U REPLMENT" for purchasing the Texas Edition). Each one I found that had Z-66 and separate-purchased $195 roof rack, didn't get the $1,000 rebate. So I think it's as I said earlier. Their marketing stuff could use some straightening out, but you couldn't have purchased a roof rack alone and combined it with your Z-66-included trailer hitch, and still net out the $1000 rebate.

Pity the poor guy that buys a truck stickered like the one above, who could have paid another $210 to get the Texas Edition combo hitch and roof rack, and in return got a $1000 rebate. And I found several of these equipped this way, out of about 20 that I looked at.

TriSailor ,
Its my understanding that the Dealer looks at the Invoice
to determin the MIN price that dealership will sell a Truck for.
The $1000.00 incentive is the dealers FIRST offering.
If you buy the truck at this point then you got the
$1000.00 incentive But you pay $405.00 for a $195.00
roof rack or you bought another trailering package
that you will not get. (Net $790.00 Incentive)
To me it is wrong to show $1000.00 when it works out to be
$790.00. Its just wrong.
If this is the best price you can get for the Truck you did save $790.00

Now if you do NOT accept this offer and work towards the MIN
price the dealer will sell it for. His final offering will be some SET percentage over the invoice.
Texas edition or not, Final offering will be based on the INVOICE .
In the case of a Texas Edition Z66 , the INVOICE will
be inflated by $210.00 for the second trailering package.
You will now be paying $210.00 MORE for it because you
got the Texas Edition.
If you got the Texas Edition for the incentive only and would
not have gotten the roof rack otherwise , you have now paid
$405.00 MORE (but you got a roof rack you did not want).

When I bought mine all the Avalanches had a big sticker in the window.

$3500 Factory Cask Back.
$450 Cal. Bonus Cash
$ xxxx DEALER DISCOUNT ( Varied based on options)

The discount in the Window of the Z66 Texas Edition I got
was about $1000.00 less than most of the others.
I did not ask why , I just assumed it was because of the
$1000.00 Texas Edition incentive on the window sticker.

Paid for 2 got one.

Kind of like advertising "buy 2 get 5 free"
You Buy into the good deal.
You do the I got 5 free dance.
You get home and only find 6 in the bag.
Good deal ;yes.
Any damages;No.
Any put of pocket loss;no.
Do you have the right to go back and get the 7th;YES.
Do you;no.
Should you;yes.
Tell others;yes.

Has the Texas Edition been available since the '04s came out? Maybe this truck was ordered prior to that package.

Uh, you lost me on all of this. First off, the money back for buying the packages - like Sun and Sound, or Texas Edition - are part of the standard GM price listing. I got them all off of the website. I guess your dealer could decide to sell you options and packages for more or less than published price, but I wouldn't stand for that. "Oh gee, GM says you should get $1000 back for buying a Texas Edition, but I'm only giving $500?" No thank you.

I was a GMSD buyer. No haggle price - either the dealer is willing to go with the numbers to the penny, or he/she isn't. The Texas Edition was $349.60, and in return the associated rebate was $863.20. The end result of the whole "buy the Texas Edition and get the rebate" was that I got a roof rack out of the deal (yes, Z-66 already had trailer hitch), and for taking it the bottom line price of the truck fell by $513.60. The Sun and Sound package cost $2,585.28, and I got an extra $863.20 rebate for taking that one too. Plus, I got the $3,250 factory cash back.

I posted some actual truck stickers above to show you what happens if you choose to skip the Texas Edition, and just add the roof rack for $195 instead. Dumb move. Regardless of whether you want to yell "unfair pricing" or "they still owe me my second trailer hitch" or whatever. The deal was always "you buy Texas Edition, you get rebate." That's what Chevy is apparently sticking with. And yes, I have one of those stickers that came off of my truck that lists trailer package under the Z-66 options, and trailer hitch under Texas Edition package too. And I took the $513.60 difference "to the bank."

TxYank - Texas Edition was introduced with the 2004 models, I think. Or certainly it was on the initial trucks that showed up here. And as well, the trucks with the stickers that I listed were not on the dealer's lot when I purchased my truck on October 1. Which had Texas Edition.

Ok, Pete. What did GM Customer Service say when you went back to them and told them you with "paid for two, got one?" I don't have an issue with paying $405 for the net addition of a roof rack, and $1,000 reduction of my vehicle price. As you wrote above, you should go back to GM and ask them for your second trailer hitch you paid for. I'd be interrested to know what they say, since our opinion really doesn't matter in whether GM tosses a second trailer hitch in the bed of your truck.
