Chevy Adds Avalanche W/o Body Hardware For '03

Identical versions? If I understand the information Goo has correctly, cladless AV will have the Silverado front facia and the cladded AV will have the original AV front facia. ?To get the AV without cladding, one would have to forgo the agressive front end that everyone associates with the Avalanche. ?It is not as simple as with cladding or without.

When I first saw the AV i though, "what the heck (ok not neally heck) is that!? I though it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen.

Over the next few months it grew on me and I finally came to the point where I really liked it's distinctive look.

Now seeing that picture without the cladding I know for sure that the cladding was the right choice. Without it the AV just looks like a pussycat.

Good grief. I know we were all wondering what an Avalanche would look like without the cladding... and we THOUGHT it might be a good idea... but that just doesn't look right at all!

It looks nothing like an Avalanche. It looks like a grossly deformed Silverado. The cladding is definately staying on my '03, end of story.

Goo, I did not tell Matt anything about the club. It appears he does not know much about the Avalanche. I will wait for a yellow av with the cladding. I am with you guys looks a silverado with a midgate. ;)

AV without cladding. Just anoter soccer mom SUV.
Cladding is Cool. I ordered a 2003 7-24 Dark Charcoal Gray WITH cladding. Can't wait till it comes in. :B:

Well Chief, I guess it turns out my dealer was correct, he was just off by 6 months.

I know I'll get reamed for this, but I like it. What sold me on the av in the first place was the test drive. And from inside the av you wouldn't be able to tell which model you were driving. I do admit an av with cladding looks tougher but right now my choice became even harder.

I like the cladding on the AV, but i can't help but wonder what it would look like with the front bumber shown in the non-clad picture with the rest of the vehicle having cladding. I think that may look pretty cool.

Interesting, but i think i will keep my Beast - may still consider darkening the cladding, but I like it. ;D

I am with the rest of you, doesn't look like an AV without the cladding. I bought mine in July of '01 was one of the first people in WV to have one. You wouldn't believe all the stares, and rubbernecking going on at that time....couldn't get anywhere very fast because of all the people coming up asking me about my AV.....was asked to have it in the local christmas parade....that never happened with my Silverado that I traded for the AV...I have to admit that I was wondering what the "cladless" would look like,,,I 've saw it and it makes me glad that I decided to go with my gut feeling and buy the AV when it first arrived, last year

Looks pretty plain to me!! :p I actually like the looks of the cladding in body color like they did on the Escalade EXT much more than I like this...Maybe this would also sway some of the "gray body cladding haters" towards the EXT if they so choose. They kind of have three choices now (although one is much more expensive).

I don't know anyone in Detroit.

I have been told that both body styles will be available for '03.

But this makes me wonder. ?At what point does it stop being considered an Avalanche and instead a new Silverado with a midgate. ?I don't see the "Avalanche" tagging in the larger photo. ?I know that all "midgate" vehicles are NOT going to be grouped under the AV model ?:cautious:

Too true. I've already seen a write up for an 04 Envoy with a mid-gate and power sliding back roof to allow you to turn the back of Envoy into a freight carrier

Personally I like the cladding, but for those who
always wanted an AV but didn't like the cladding, well
you have no excuse now but to buy one!

Just goofin' off. Don't look too close. I was tired and it was a quicky job.

Maybe with the cladding the yellow will be ok, but I still hate the Silverado look. It's just not aggressive enough without the Avalanche front end! :C:

I've got to say that I like the looks of the new vehicle. I think they should call it "AV Lite". I still prefer the looks of the original, but I believe the General will sell a lot of these too.

Goo, Ask your friend in Detroit if Chevy will continue to build both bodies, IE: Blistered fenders and non, I can't see an $800.00 option paying for new tooling.
The tooling for both versions already exists and GM has paid for it. I would speculate that unless sales figures for both versions are high, that after next year there will be only one version again. I think that GM is going to let the market decide which AV to build.

When I see the new -Lite- Avalanche I get mixed feelings, ...

1-Happy my Investment will keep its value .-
2-Sad. Now there trully isnt a truck out there to rival the new DODGE RAM in front end beauty...

Hate to admit it , the new RAM is one gorgeous truck

I have added the hi-resolution 2900 x 1734 photo to my original post. Just click on the photo. Note the restrictions I receive from GM media.

Thanks.
