Chevy avalanche pulling truck?

Hey all, I’ve seen a couple videos on YouTube of people beating on their lanches and pulling them in local fair truck pulls. I have a stock lifted 5.3 avalanche on 20x12s wrapped in 33s. The local truck pull my town is putting on has a factory stock class. Will my old 5.3 be able to keep up? Should I run my stocks? Please let me know if anyone has any knowledge on this. My friends want me to pull it but I don’t know if it’ll walk the dog on the sled

I personally wouldn't do it but I'll watch anyone that will! If there is a weak link on your truck, you will certainly find it during a truck pull.

I wouldn't do it with the 33s on 20x12s if you do decide. Post some current pics of your truck.

Then make sure you post the carnage pics if you break something. 😛

This should be fun.

I can see rear end exploding along with tranny.
Maybe U-joints..

all depends on condition of components that transfer power to wheels.

I think better to go to junkyard and find something that does not take much to get up and running

I agree with above posts, so many components are marginal at best and they definitely have age on them now. Especially if you use your AV for daily driver I would NOT push my luck and risk breaking things.

I recently had it lifted with the 3.5 inch rough country. I have all kryptonite front end parts so she should be ready to go. I really only worry about the rear. I have brand new shocks and coil springs but will I need something more? Perhaps air bags?

Great idea. Here’s pics of my truck unbroken haha. I’m worried about pushing the 33s but the stock tires aren’t 10 ply and these are also forged wheels.

Nice looking Avalanche! I wouldn't do it but you'll definitely break something else begore the tires/wheels. The 10 bolt rear won't hold to too much abuse. The u-joints or straps will also give out fairly quickly. Front CV shafts will go quickly too.

If you break something, it's a good opportunity to upgrade!

How do you like that kryptonite stuff? I was looking at replacing my tie rods and upper arms with Moog problem solver.

Bad idea. Unless you like to fix stuff and have the cash. Trans isn't built for it. Well, nothing is stock.

I planned on pulling 2wd Factory stock gas class.
Mostly because I’ll break less stuff. The kryptonite stuff is the only thing I’ve found to be “kingdom proof” so needless to say I choose that over moog anyday.

DITTO THAT;)

Do it! And have a blast :))) We only live once in this world, that we know of, and you'll probably have one of the greatest times of your life and look back with a big smile every time you reminisce, even if you break something. It's worth the potential "hassles" to have an awesome day and memory.

I used to take my daily driver 1982 Corvette (had a few stage 1 performance mods and my little friend Mr. Nitrous--nothing too radical) to Moroso Motorsports Park on "test and tune" nights and run the quarter mile races and also when they had the Pepsi Nationals or other racing events (they would have open quarter mile racing at the events) and I look back on those days with a big smile and gratefulness that I was able to do that with my brother. I wouldn't trade those time for anything, I drove from Miami to West Palm Beach, ran the races, drove home and never had a problem (not to say I couldn't have and probably should have but that Vette was a good one!)

Take some pictures and get a video when you make your run so you'll have some great memories and so we can see.

However, if you don't have the money that you may need to repair something if it breaks then that is something to seriously consider, if you need the truck as a primary driver.

I think if you hook up a lifted truck to a sled at typical hitch height and start pulling hard you will bend the frame down in the back. I've seen it happen to soft little street trucks in the past without ever moving the sled. (Yes I like tractor/truck pulls and demo derbys). If you want a pulling truck, then build one!

I am not the type that thinks putting a brick on the accelerator pedal and standing back and watching something intentionally break is cool - even if you are done with a vehicle! Those need to go into the demo derby! Oops! Guess waste and coolness is in the eye of the beholder. Another person might say the same thing about demo derbys!
