Chevy Silverado High Desert Concept

Hello, I know I'm new but I have been following this site since my first AV back in 2003. I too would like to see a new AV. However, if this is all GM will do I will buy one.

I couldn't keep quiet in this forum for 2 weeks, let alone 10+ years.  glad to see you posting now  (y)  :welcome:

GM posted a photo of the concept truck on Facebook. Most of the comments are either "its ugly" or "is that an Avalanche?" lol
Either they pulled it or I'm going blind.  Probably the latter, but I can't find it.

If it makes it to production and is available on the 2500HD platform with a dmax. It will be my next truck.

This concept is intended to be an accessory that can be dropped into the bed of any Silverado or Sierra for that matter. It would probably only be for the short box though.

Ok,,, so a nicely equipped High Country is going to run you between 55 and 60K. How much more is this insert going to set you back? Not to mention they still didn't put any damn off road lights on the top sail bar.

A concept is a design exercise to show features they could add to existing or future models. Avalanche production wasn't planned or expected when they built the concept. The side bins aren't a new idea, they've toyed with the idea of offering some version of them on the Silverado for decades.
If individual features are popular enough to offer as options they could offer a High Desert package.

Or call the trim level...Avalanche

I'm ok with the saddle bags and the 3-pc bed cover panels. I've always liked both. The sail panels, however, are "wth were they thinking". Functionally necessary on the Av On a Silvy they're decorative junk that hampers utility.

I agree to a degree, nonfunctional cosmetics are more recent to pickups than cars but if it's what people want.

:offtopic:  I swear I just heard a commercial that said, "Silverado, among the longest lasting most durable trucks on the road." I never noticed the qualifier before, maybe GMC trucks are  ???  Durability is partly due to the owners properly maintaining them so the claim was always questionable.

You're right, it depends on maintenance. The most recent surveys of registered vehicles with over 200k miles put Chevy and Ford on par.

Yeah, I know. Just that when it comes to truck trucks I still view them as working, utility first vehicles. Guess I just have too much old on me.

They actually have a video on YouTube. They have it listed as a 2016 Silverado High Country.

For a moment I thought that was a midgate she was lifting.

Wonder why the accent striping on the storage box is different than the leading edge striping and at the rear?

Same here, I know Avalanche sail panel are structural but what's the purpose on the High Desert ? I think the original purpose for sail panels was to hide roll bars. I know they change the aerodynamics as I have leaf tornados out my back window on my way to work, might be snow tornados this weekend, so maybe they're for a reason.

Go back to the 1960s Ford trucks that had toolboxes integrated into the bottom of the bedside. It's definitely NOT an original idea. The boxes at the bottom of the bedside make more sense to me; you don't lose the functionality if you decide to put a one-piece tonneau or a topper on the bed.

They had those in the 70's also. I used to watch that show "Fall Guy" with Lee Majors and that's the truck he had. Always wanted one of those.

I think I may have spotted a 2015 Chevy Avalanche.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxBsc2BISjs&list=UUO-85LYfB61OP4SRAgpfncw  Pause at 5:35,  It is right beside the concept Colorado, You can see a moss green truck that has the sails and opened saddle doors "silver" and looks like a silverado back bed making it not a suburban base truck.  But decided to show what I found.  Maybe someone can find out what it really is, Debut at SEMA on the show viewing.

Never mind guys I found it.  http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2014/11/chevy-silverado-suvs-go-premium-sema.html

More Pics:  Its not the Avalanche but a Silverado Add on for the bed.

Yeah, I saw it a few months ago.  It's missing one very important thing - a midgate.  It's funny how they make all that stuff sound brand new, like it's never been done before.

I couldn't believe the people I've heard talk about all the "new features" GM has came out with... Especially my buddies with 2014 Silverados.. The love that step bumper thats so "new"... I keep reminding them its been around since mid 2001... And the ram boxes.... They "love them" and the fact that its "never been done before".. Once again, I remind them that the Av has had saddlebags since Mid 2001....  :beating:
