Chime Volume

On my 2000 C2500 I was able to locate the small black box that housed the chime and by wrapping electrical tape around it, reduce the volume.

Everytime I get into my Av and turn the key on, the chime comes on for 5 loud chimes. Annoying as h...
I know, if I put the seat belt on first, this eliminates the chime. But I always start the engine first - old habit.
If I could locate the chime, I would try to reduce the volume with tape or something.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Another case of "I wish GM divisions would talk to eachother". I too start the engine first and then put on the seatbelt. My Saturn has a delay before the chime goes off - i.e. you can get in, crank the engine, fasten your seatbelt, and NO CHIME! Now, if you wait about 10 seconds, the chime goes off, but I like the setup - accomodates the sceanario discussed here very well.

Until then - tape it.

Or - unplug the chime - but that will kill the lights on and key in ignition warning.

Or - You MAY be able to unplug the sensor switch under the drivers seat to kill the seatbelt chime. Did that on my '87 Blazer, but don't know if this applies to newer vehicles like the Av.

I think the chime is inside of the BCU which is the rectangular black box located below the steering colum. It is held up there by a couple of captive plastic hooks.

Nobody asked me, but If indeed it is a 12 volt chime (must be) you could put a 12 Volt delay relay. I'm sure they could would have them at Radio Shack. Of course it would be nice if they had one that would just plug right in with the delay built in the chime. That may be something to look into. :D

The only mod to date I know of is to disconnect it with some wiring at the connector on the BCM....it is listed in the accessories section....

Those chimes before buckling up are real annoying. Here's the solution:

The seat belt buckle has a wire coming out of the bottom that leads to a clip that plugs in to another wire. Unplug the wire. Easier said then done. It's very difficult to reach. You must keep the seat cushion and buckle out of the way while undoing the retaining clip. I used a real small slot head screw driver and pryed it underneath the tab. Be prepared for some bruised knuckles - but this way you keep the reminder chimes for the lights. Can you simply cut the wire? I don't know. I figured it might revert to a default setting that is always on.

Take the kick panel off under the steering wheel and find the black box called the BCM. Find the set of wires labeled J4 then locate the wire (light green) in that section labeled A1 pull it out and tape it up. The loud chime is gone.

Here is a Mod that will work on '03s with Bose 6 Disc systems to reduce the volume of the warning bell. With the AV running and the stereo turned off, press and hold the "6" for your disc player. After about 4 seconds it will switch your volume from "Loud Chime" to "Normal Chime". Repeat the process to switch back. (y)

I found this by accident while playing around in the AV waiting for my son's ball practice to finish.

Thanks for the info!!!! I have to go out and try this right now. I hate that loud chime!!

My door chime was annoying the heck out of me too. So I went out to follow the simple instructions to reduce the volume, and Yowza, it got even louder. Mine was already in the normal chime mode. I think GM should change that to "Loud Chime" and "Super Loud Chime."

Holy Crap!!!!

I thought mine was loud until it went to "LOUD". Good god, what the heck would anyone need the "LOUD" version for? Maybe when working on a flight line or something.

Thanks for the info even though it didn't fix it for me. I pity you guys that have been driving around with it on LOUD.

Think of all the non members that are currently suffering from this.

Mine just started to make a funny noise like the chime module is going bad. You think the chime noise was bad before, well now it twice as bad. Going to dealer to get fixed. Before it went the chime went off for about 40 seconds when I left my windows down and got out with the truck off. What is that all about?

Does anyone know if there is something like this for the 02' w/o BOSE?

Is there an option/mod/plug,etc. to turn off the door chime with keys in ignition "accessory" postion while the door is open?

One tip that has been posted here before (sorry, I don't remember who it was) is to trip the latch on the side of the door so that it thinks it is closed. This will stop the ding, even though the door is still open. Just make sure to reset the latch by pulling the door handle before you try to shut it, ot it won't latch.

With the door open, if you look at the edge of the door (the part that is hidden when it is closed) you will see the latch mechanism. Just slide the latch back (from the inside to outside of the door) and that will trip it. Just be careful, as it is greasy and you will get very dirty if not careful.

This works becuase the door open signal is built into the latch mechanism, it is not a pin switch like they used to use.

(y) Thanks! Fantastic. I was dissappointed that the old pull on the key trick didn't work like it did on so many models of years gone by.

I know for a fact the powers who rewire, figured out the mod for the 02 >:D

Messing with the BCM, body control module, under the steering column is a VERY BAD PLACE TO MESS UP!

This is a picture of my dash and how I killed my chime in an 2002.
Others will chime in soon.

I thought I read about the chime before in another thread by some woman?.....been a long while and no offense but she gave a lenghty way to trim anc clip wires to remove the chime and or lower volume...

Maybe some of you could enlighten me to my problem, for some reason unknown to me, I now have no audio from my radio/cd and no chimes. The radio and cd player appear to be working, but no sound at all. In addition, it seems my low gear range shifting is a bit high at low speeds. Any ideas?

Chris

Sounds like a possible databus/pcmissue. Is this an '03? If so you might want to run it over to the dealer and let them take a quick gander. Also might want to check all your fuses (2 fuse blocks if you were not aware of this, one inside the driver's door and the other atop the drivers shock tower).
