POSTPONED - SEE POST #36

This event is not on Volant Shops web site, so I am guessing it will continue to be the second Saturday in November as usual.

After the parking situation last year, and cold weather once again eliminating Amish donuts, it was suggested that we try this GTG on a different date.
I realize summer is half over, but I am open to suggestions.

I am unable to attend on November 12, but you all are welcome to carry on the tradition.
My other plans changed, now I can be there on Nov 12.

The usual plan has a few significant changes. Replacing Volant this year.

FRS radios on channel 8.

Schedule:

We will start at the Apple castle, and go from there.
  • ??:??-10:00 Apple Castle. Arrive at your leisure, we will leave at 10.

Farm Fresh Apples, Cherries, & Fall Fun at the Apple Castle in New Wilmington, PA

The Apple Castle is full of fall fun, fresh fruit, and family friendly activities everyone will love!

  • 10:00-11:00 Anna's Amish Donuts. They have more than just donuts. BRING CASH - I don't think they take credit cards.

  • 11:30-1:00 The Barns = Furniture, rugs, and more. This place is at the far end of Volant

  • 1:30-2:30 Cheese House

The Cheese House is on the south side of 208 about 1/4 mile east of 18.

If you think you might purchase some meats or cheese or other food items, bring along an empty cooler to keep your items cool until you get home.

  • 3:00-3:15 Avenue of Flags. This will be a simple drive thru viewing, unless anyone wants to stop and take a look around.

  • 3:15-? Kraynak's. End time will be when we all are finished. This store is big and could take quite some time to see it all.

  • Dinner? Will see what the group wants to do, if anything.

Potential attendees:
GoldBowTie and Toots

Didn't you find another place that had the donuts

Yes, there is an Amish farm, between our New Wilmington "circle cruise" and Volant, that sells donuts on Saturdays.
If there are others there, and many of us, then parking could get congested.
I'm not saying we shouldn't give it a try, just warning of the possibility that it could get crowded.

Well we all have hazards on our trucks, grab the donuts then relocate elsewhere to enjoy.

Not sure if it's a typo or not, but the website says November 13th, which is Sunday, not Saturday
Their Facebook page does say November 12th though
The October event (Scarecrow Saturday) is on October 15th If we did want to try to go in October over November

We can try October 15. I was there on that weekend in 2020.
The Apple Castle was very crowded. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of.

I am now able to attend on November 12.
If we choose November 12 as the date, perhaps we should reverse the order of our visits?
Start in Volant to beat the rush, then go from there.

I am going to do a scouting trip this Saturday to see what else is nearby that could be an alternative to going to Volant.
Will most likely keep the Apple Castle and Cheese House on the agenda.
Add the "Donuts on Saturdays" stop.
But find something different instead of Volant.

Scouting trip was successful.
Found another new donut place.
Found an alternative to Volant.
Details coming soon.

First post is updated. Schedule is flexible. We will see how it goes. Questions/suggestions welcome.

Looks good. I'm definitely going to try and attend this year.

I've got it on my calendar.

For anyone wanting to cruise together from Ohio, I guess this means you, OldVMer.
GoldBowTie plans to leave Summit Racing about 8:30 and will be getting on I76 east to head to Pennsylvania.

FRS radios on channel 8.

We are meeting up at the Apple Castle first correct?

Yes, meeting at, starting at, Apple Castle.
The anticipated schedule is in the updated first post here.

We have a fundraiser at our VFW that day so we're not able to make it.

I have updated the itinerary.
This is probably common knowledge, but please bring cash for the Amish donuts.
I'd bet they don't take credit cards.
Also, they have more than donuts, so you might want a little extra cash.

I'm sorry to say that for the first time in a decade I don't think think I'm going to be coming out. Not that we can ever trust a meteorologist, but it's a forecast for 50% chance of rain. I was already on the fence about coming and bringing Connor with me to see Santa, but with the adjusted schedule, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. With the Apple Castle being 3 hours from my house, getting there to start the day even earlier than before for 10 as opposed to a 10:30 and previously 11:00 departure would have me getting myself and Connor up before 6 just to get there by 10, not taking any time to actually enjoy the place. Then having to jump in and out for 6 spots as opposed to 3, the elimination of Volant as whole and my general disinterest in the barn coupled with ending the day an additional 30-35 minutes away from the outlets (my typical spot to stop before heading home) and home adds to an already long day and just doesn't seem like a shape up for a good time for me. I hope you guys have a good time (and good weather). Let us know your thoughts on the new donut spot, the Barn and Kraynaks.

What if you go to the Apple Castle around 11-12?
Then you go to Volant to see Santa.
Then you join us at the Cheese House at 1:30?

I have allowed ample time at each stop.
With such a small group, we may need less time, as there are fewer to visit with.
So we may get to Kraynak's before 3:15.

Maybe this will change your mind? If not, we'll miss you.

Starting to look like the smallest Volant GTG to date

Hate to have to write this, but we are not going to be able to attend this time. We had planned to until this morning. Family GTG planned for today got postponed to next Saturday due to a medical emergency with our granddaughter today. She's okay, but we're going to miss the festivities NOT in Volant.

It seems like this is not the one to go to this year
