I called to check and Christmas on Main Street is happening.
Masks and social distancing are required.
I'm not sure how social distancing is possible with so many people inside small shops.
With the pandemic, I'll understand if you choose not to attend.

I will do a scouting trip on October 10.
I want to make sure we can do our regular stops.
Will check to see if there are any additional restrictions or requirements.

Like before, let's meet at The Apple Castle and go from there.
Arrive at The Apple Castle at your leisure.
The Apple Castle opens at 7:30.
We will depart The Apple Castle at 10:30.

FRS radios on channel 8.

Me and Toots completed the scouting trip.
We should be able to do this GTG without any change in plans except for the mask requirement.

Apple Castle has been rebuilt and is unrecognizable. Wow.
The new store is bigger and has lost the small country store charm.
The place was busy. There must have been 20-30 cars in parking lot.
It was Volant Pumpkin Festival Day.

The Cheese House is unchanged and restrooms are still available.

The circle at Westminster is under construction on a couple connecting roads.
The small bridge there has been replaced. We can still travel the circle, it's just a little dusty.

Our parking spot in Volant is under construction. No one was parked there.
Volant had many cars parked elsewhere, but didn't seem to have too many people.
Did not see the donut ladies, but we did not walk through Volant.

We did not check with any restaurants, but did have have lunch at Ryder's near the Cheese House.
Ryder's was OK. It could work for us if we have only 6-8 people. If more than that, I can call to see if they can get us in.

I will post photos this week.
Let me know if you are coming.
And where, or if, you want to eat dinner.

I intend to come if others are. Sadly for the first time since learning of this GTG I have no Avalanche to bring. Still plan to be there if it's a go though.

Whoa, what? I thought you had two.

I did, but a friend who was getting deployed wanted to get rid of his Yukon Denali XL and I got it for about $12k under book value, I never intended to sell the 13' but the Yukon was such a stupid deal I couldn't pass it up and my wife was not about having 5 vehicles so away the 13' went. I pretty much never drove the 08'. I only put 3800 miles on it over 3 years since getting the 13'. It was basically just sitting in the back yard hanging out. My neighbors daughter asked to buy it so I sold it to her. So for the first time since 2008 I am Avalancheless. Unless I find someone selling a Southern Comfort package one that isn't rusted to hell I think my time as an Avalanche owner has probably come to an end.

What happened to the apple castle. It didn't have that huge facade last year. I'll admit it was always a bit cramped inside, but I liked the rustic look. Now it looks like a strip mall

The new Apple Castle has much more room inside.
They seem to have all the same items as before.

BUMP. Is anyone else thinking of coming? Only 12 days away. I thought N1NCZ might be coming.

I wish I could make the trip. It's a little over 8 hours from me ;)

Pat & I are also going to plan to attend, not sure how much we want to visit most of the stores in Volant, but Apples & stuff @ the new Apple Castle, Cheese & stuff @ the Cheese House and hopefully Donuts & Wine in Volant. We can also agree to Tavern on the Green. See you all Saturday.

It has been a while since I checked the Tavern on the Square website.
Wow, permanently closed. That is too bad, but not a total surprise with the pandemic.

Apple Castle and Cheese House are definite stops.
I too visit Volant mainly for the donuts and wine.
Also, since most of us have been through all the stores before, we could make the Volant shopping a quick and limited visit and call it a day.
Dinner is not a requirement, but we do like to eat.

8hrs is a cake walk, for me its 10 hours, and I still usually go, even if we haven't had the donuts in what, I think its been 3 yes. And by the weather forecast, looks like there won't be any donuts this year either.

Looks like we can make this. Put us down as attending. It will be good to see all again.
If you would like to travel with me, meet me at Summit at 8:30 or at my house about 8:15.
You may ride with us if you want. (y)

I'm not going to make this one. Was trying to see if I could do work while out there, but its just too much driving

Tpicks55, I will see you at Summit.
Calicak89, good to hear that Bean and Jenna are coming.
James, we will miss you. Maybe we'll see you next year sometime.

So how was the festival different from other years

Only one Avalanche in attendance.
Apple Castle was bigger. Cheese House the same. Circle cruise was smaller and quieter = no horns.
We were warned that we were parking on private property and could get towed.
Our wait for donuts was an hour plus, but at least we got donuts this year.
Many people in Volant and many without masks.
We cut our Volant shopping short and skipped dinner this year.
Was nice to see the CAFCNA members that did show up.
I was home by 3.
