Cladding Protectant Product Test w/pics

The service writers at the dealer closest to me claim to have never even heard of Gatorback, let alone a TSB concerning fading cladding.  :E:

I tried the one posted on the Gatorback website, but since it does not specifically call out the 'ten year' part guarantee, they won't do it.  :beating:

The "Something Better" foam worked great, still looks better than it did when I first tried it 10 months ago. Maybe No Touch makes something like it still. I only used half a can.

The key to no oily run-off is do not read the instructions, they want you to use alot of the product. I don't shampoo my hair twice either. I used enough and rubbed the stuff in good, then let it dry in the sun and hit the dry areas.

go here for the TSB

I printed it out and gave it to my dealer because they wanted to do a cheap coating.
After I gave them the TSB they did the gatorback without complaint and it looks great.

Verse the time spent scheduling and being w/out the ave (to get gatorbacked) I'm all for the future. I've had it on around six months now and it still looks great!

2000 cans should keep it shiny for some time?

That's tempting for $1000.00, 50 cents a can is a good deal for Something Better! I have near 3500 coworkers at the truck plant, I think I could double/triple my investment quick just selling at work.

Not for me....

I have found the Armorall Tire shine in the orange container works great for looks and lasts. But it collects dust like crazy. If you live in a area with no dust it would be perfect. It lasted 6 weeks for me with dust. I could run the Av thru the carwash then just wipe the cladding a Terry cloth and it was shiny all over again. The dust collection on the other hand was a pain in the but. I had to wipe the cladding down every day to keep up with it. So if you want a long lasting wet look and live in an area with little to no dust this stuff is great.

If you live in the dust that is worse then Idaho do not use this stuff. I am now just using the plain Amoral protectant. It works good and is easy to apply. It last for the period between major washes and is very inexpensive.

Just my .02

PEZZDOG:  Try a little of the Plexus plastic cleaner/polish on that third brake light.  It should polish off most of that oxidation.

As an aside:  I've never put any protectant or chemical on the cladding because I never trusted any of them to do more damage than they claimed to fix.  Seems like "Armorall" did more damage to my previous cars' plastic bits, so I never used it on the Av.  So after four years my cladding looks like some funky white/grey stripped pattern.  I'll have to look into this "Gatorback" stuff...

Has anyone tried to use the gatorback cladding protection.

If using armor all..  (303 type product) less is best... wipe on...

then buff with dry towel... to set resins.. to get less drip..

I prefer Future Floor Wax.... Still on my truck since Jan 2005...needs touch up but from the one sail panel I did not do... it looks real good...

Or... you can get GATORBACK paint applied to it

I use the amorall protecten liquid they sell it at wal mart you should try it. . . . it doesnt seem to run when it gets wet and it give ur cladding a really deap shine that last bout a month maybe a lil less but it looks amazing. . . . . deff recommen it guys aight ttul pz out

Has anyone tried rejex yet?

hxxp: rejex. com/rejex. html

Also I purchase a 07 Ava and my saleman told me Chevrolet fixed the fading issues with the plastic, was he pulling my chain?

He may have been...the top of my cladding on the roof is starting to fade and look like the faded cladding on the older year models I have seen. It's not real bad yet, but I can tell it's going to get that way. Only a matter of time.?

never heard of the rejex before

and yes, I think the salesman was  :(

I am using ICE on mine. I put it on over 1 month ago. i have washed the Av 4 times and have been thru 3 days of rain and now a day of snow. It still looks as good as it did when I applied it.

Everytime I wash the Avy  :B: I use Eagle One "Wax As You Dry" on the cladding.   Every other month I use "Black Jack Professional Detailers Formula - Black Again" Part no. NA64. This seems to work very well. It can be used on all colors of exterior trim and rubber, vinyl, plastic, etc. The only place I can find it is in Strauss Auto Stores in NYC. Their web address is: www. northamericanoil. com

I recently waxed my Avalanche and accidentally got some of the wax on the cladding. The wax seems to have left white stains on my black cladding. Does anyone know of a cleaning / polishing method / product that would bring out the origional black color and add some shine to it?

big thread in this section about remove wax/tar etc from cladding...

I think I found something that does not run, or wash off in the rain or carwash.  Recently I cleaned the cladding and rear deck with Armorall Orange Wipes and finished it off with Meguiars Exterior Trim Detailing Coating.  It works great!!  It has been three weeks, two full service car washes, two bad thunderstorms and it is still there an shining very black.

Meguiars Exterior Trim Detailing Coating

Is it white and milky?
303 type

Or oily?
Tire shine type
