Does anyone have a suggestion on a rim cleaner? I have aftermarket rims and I'm extremelly unhappy with the way they look after 1 winter. I scrubbed and scrubbed but to no prevail. Mine are chrome or chrome plated and they just won't come clean. Tried Mothers, polishing compound, and also rubbing compound. Oh yea, and Neverdull. Nothing seems to be working. Please, all that have had this problem and have a good product, please post your suggestions. It's going to be nice today so I'm hoping to get this done. Thanks in advance.

my friend i have used every thing they sell at wallys,no good, so my wife say use brillo pads, dont rub very hard, rub lightly, and presto it works,, dont rub hard ok abuelito

That is a good idea by Abuelito, I have used 4 and 5 ott steel wool on my HOG for the really ruff stuff. but not the brillo. If you use steel wool use nothing lower than 4 ott. or it will scratch the crome. This is just some thinks I have used on crome on my HOG

Thanks guys. I used to use Brillo on my other cars but didn't even think about it this time. I'm so dumb. I'll give it a try and let you know. Thanks again. I was getting upset probablt over nothing,,,,,,, yet.

dont use anything with HF (hydrogen fluoride, hydrofluoric acid.)

its not an especially strong acid, but its a particularly nasty acid burn to treat. personally its my belief that if the FDA will pull things like ephedra from the market that they should do the same with HF.

i dont see as many wheel cleaners with it as i used to, but there are still some out there.

if you get it on you hands it may not feel like its burning you for a number of hours, but later on if youve gotten it on you itll be evident.

the pain is subdermal and the F- ion penetrates much deeper damaging tissues further down than other acids like HCl and H2SO4.

the F- can actually bind up some Ca+ from the bones in your fingers if left untreated. they usually start out treating with topical calcium gluconate gel but if that doesnt help they start infiltrating it subdermally.

in short: HF is not worth messing with.

do you have pics...

Mothers chrome wheel polish is awesome stuff...you may have a severe problem.....

Brillo pad removed alot. However, the rims still do not have a good shine to them and it almost seems like there is a coating if something on there. I can see spots(alot of them) but cannot seem to polish them out. It doesn't appear to be pitted. Really smooth but like I said, alot of little "spots" still are visable not allowing the shine to come through. Anymore suggestions?

Keep all Chrome rims off if you live in the North. I've used the Mothers and the neverdull Both are good. Try some artex or the steel wool.. My new rims I am getting will be 22in Chrome.
As soon as show time is over they come off.....

id bring em back from the place you got them, could have been a cheap job from the cromer ! :B:

look on web for eastwood....they have polishing kits that have rouge and pads for drills which should help ya out...In fact I got the catalog yesterday....good stuff....

For cleaning I use a product called A2Z it will remove just about everything. For polishing IMO Mothers makes the best products. The worst part about chrome is the work to keep it shiny.

kinda blury fireeater...

are they pits?

are they rusty?

is it a bad chrome job that is cracking?

the pic is blurry to me....kinda like there are lines on the wheels

Mother's chrome polish should work. Try to polish the spot(s) with a Dremel w/a polishing wheel. I use this for the tight tight spots.

I have some Eagle wheels. The problem I have is everything that touches them seems to stain them. NeverDull works excellent to get them back to looking new, but as soon as water or soap or anything else touches them, they get spotty and dull again. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes each to get them back to new again. Is there any other cleaner out there that will work on these aluminum wheels that doesn't take as much work? I've tried just about every kind and none seem to protect them and none of them clean better than the NeverDull.

Mothers aluminum wheel polish.....

Then apply a polymer sealant such as Klasse AIO or Zaino....

I have the answer to keeping your wheels looking as new as the day you bought your Av. I have used this method on my last 3 vehicles and I can tell you ... IT WORKS!!!

I love tire dressing! I love it so much that about 7 years ago while coating my tires, I got the tire dressing all over the rims. I used a dry paper towl (shop towels work great) and voila!!! instant brilliant shiny rims!

It's so simple, it'll make you cry. Less than 5 minutes per rim. The tire shine acts kinda like a non-stick cooking spray. Nothing sticks to the rims... especially brake dust! I polish mine probably once a month and I always get a brilliant shine!

I know I sound like an infomercial, but I swear by my tire shine! Try it and you will see!

I run the Silverado SS wheels all summer then put on the Chromed stock wheels for the winter. I use Mothers chrome polish several times through out the winter and they still look great
