Clear code?

New to this whole code idea- They did not have error codes when I was a kid!
I have code p0446 and changed out the vap cannister valve and the vent valve solenoid so my question is will the code clear by itself or do i need to return to the parts store and have them clear it?

Sometimes codes will clear themselves after a number of cycles.

Sometimes not.

Most times if a code is set, it will remain in history even though a CEL is not lit.

Sometimes not.

Having a CEL lit usually does not prevent the engine from functioning at some level.

The underlying problem can.

But not always.

I hope that clears everything up.

Probably not.

You could have the store clear the code so you can see if your repair did the job…if the code comes back you know there’s more to dig into.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC for P0446

• The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.

• A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.

• A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.

• Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.
