Clicking Sound When Turning

Spent the weekend at Myrtle Beach with the Av, and there were more tight parking spaces than anywhere I've been for a long time.

Anyway, noticed every time I turn the steering wheel all the way left or right I get a continuous clicking sound. When I back off a little it stops.

Normal? Or a problem?

I have a similar problem. When I am at a slow crawl, and the wheel is turned slightly to the right, I feel a bump, bump, bump. (Sorry, I don't know how else to explain it.) I do not hear it, I just feel it in the cab.

The "bumps" are more frequent than one per revolution of the wheel, but they are rhythmic. I do not notice them every time, but they are getting more frequent.

I would venture to say it is a CV joint going bad, but I hate to speculate.

I am taking the truck to the dealer tomorrow to see if he can determine what it is.

Hi there I get the same sound, but it is hard to duplicate
for the dealer when you need to and the wont do anything about it unless they can duplicate it. If you get
a diagnosis of the problem please let me know what it
is. Mines been in the shop twice for this problem.

I had a '01 Yukon XL 2500 4x4 with the 8.1 in it and it did the same thing. (most noticable in a right turn with little or no acceleration). I was told that it was a drive-train design quirk. The front axle would "bind" on itself because of the different distances that the front wheels were traveling. It was most noticable after a lengthy drive on the highway on the first turn after exiting when the running gear was hot. It never caused any problems except that it was anoying. :(

I am glad to know that I am not the only one with this issue.

I was about to call the dealer, but if it is a design flaw I guess I will just have to deal with it.

I sort of have the same problem. I don't hear anything but I feel a "click" in the steering wheel. Mine has nothing to do with the speed I'm going either.

I had the same problem with a Silverado I used to have.

It turned out to be a problem with the steering column. I think the way it was explained to me was that there is some kind of collapsible joint in the column so if you were in a crash, you don't get impaled by the steering column. It turned out that there was a recall for the problem and after it was fixed I never noticed it again.

It's been a while since I owned the Silverado, but I think what I'm feeling in the steering wheel is the same.

I have been sifting through some of the older posts and the are 3-4 other threads out there with the same type of discription as the first question. They all have simular descriptions - (slow speed, right turn, warm running gear). I've heard about the steering colum issue before, but that's not what we are hearing/feeling.

THe guy above you had a 4X4.....you may still have a problem
