Color-matched Cladding?

I was talking to a dealer last night, and he said that he heard that there would be an option for cladding matching the rest of the body from the factory for 2003. Has anybody heard anything about this, or was he just confused with the clad-less option?

I haven't heard anything.

I think they are going to be busy enough with just two versions for the 2003 model year. So I doubt it.

I just got back from the dealer and he told me there are talks going on now about the 2004 model will have Painted Cladding. He feels confident this will happen.

I talked to a second dealer today, and he indicated that painted cladding would be available from the factory in 2003, and he even went so far as to say the option will cost about $250. This sounds good, but I'm still not sure if I believe it.

I just used the dealer's computer to order my 2003 last night and I didn't see anything about a painted cladding option. I did select "ZY1 Solid Paint" and I don't know what the alternative is to that so maybe the alternative choice is painted cladding. ???

I haven't heard anything about painted cladding as a factory option.
I think he's just confused with the clad-less option. ?We know more here in this club then 90% of the dealers out there  ?

You are probably right.

Some are just getting the rumors from 6 months ago ;D

When I picked up my new Av last month, the check-list girl that only went through about three items with me (that's another story) told me that tere would be a color matching option on the 2003 cladding as well. She didn't know about the dark charcoal cladding but she said that she got the info from the Chevy rep. ???

I think what we're referring to is dyed cladding, not painted as that is being done now. I have heard the rumors too that in 04 they were considering having the cladding match the paint color some what like the EXT has.

As they have changed the cladding to a darker color this year I would think it would be easy to do. I always thought an after market company would introduce cladding to match the different paint colors. If the clad-less AV sells well I don't think either of these will happen. :(
.

I don't know about you guys, but the cladding is what drew me to the av in the first place. It was radical and new. As for the after-market cladding, you may be on to somthing. If someone only had the resources to start up a small bussiness :0:

That is fairly expensive, 1650, given that nothing is dne to the sails or sidebox covers. Also you would need to cover the cost of clips which will be broken in removal.
Just my .02.

Its just my opinion but the origianl Av in that comparison looks MUCH better. ?As with most new vehicles, there will be fads which quickly wear out. ?Remember all the wings and spoilers people used to put on IROC's and corvettes? ?Now you cant give those things away. In the end an origianl is what will turn the heads.

I think that the price is a bit steep too given that you have to have your Av "cladless" while you wait for the painted ones to show....and the clip thing too...

Also, the painted cladding looks good, but the unpainted cladding has prevented door dings on too many occasions....I like the unpainted...if you want to worry about dings, get them painted...if you want to use the truck as a "Truck"....leave them unpainted...

My .02

My first post, so forgive me if this is covered somewhere else:

I was just looking at the Chevy site and looked at the Gallery. There is a new option for 2003 called WBH (Without Body Hardware) that doesn't have any cladding at all. I think that is waht you have been hearing about cladding matching the paint. It doesn't because there is no cladding. I'm attaching a picture of it.

IMHO, I like the cladding the best!

WElcome to the CLUB....

And yeah INFAMOUS GOO929 first posted that pic in this section some time ago...

As I normally find out, the dealer knows less than the customer. The '03 Av and possibly the '04 will not have painted cladding like the EXT. Why would they have it painted on the Av and hurt sales on the EXT?

Chevy is coming out with a naked Avalanche. No body cladding...no fender flares...no beefy bumper...the front end will have the Silverado frontend including chrome bumper...same fenders as the Silv, bodyside molding and regular rear bumper. The only thing is will carry is the rear fairing. The new GM wanted it gone as he thinks it was hurting sales on the Av. I think the price was hurting them...too expensive...so as usual I bought year end. The second Av looks naked, not tough looking so I really don't think they will sell. The GM went onto saying to get rid of that "plastic crap"...a photo of an actual naked Av was published in either Four-Wheeler, Truckin or Off-Road magazine...can't remember as I buy them all....

In my opinion color matching cladding is the only real option that is not offered that should be! JMHO ;)
