Colored Letters On!

Jamie,

Looks fabulous

How long did it take Stripeman to get your letters to you and how long did it take to put them on?

Steve

On the other thread, I had mentioned it probably takes about 5-7 days to get them. I ordered them last Firday (4/11) ?and they got here yesterday (4/1:cool:. They are shipped via UPS ground.

Installation took about 5 minutes per location. I cut the decal into 3 pieces: Avala ?n ?che. When I tried to do it in 1 piece, the "n" didn't line up very well. I cut it in half before the "n" but then the rest didn't line up well. So, it was easier to have it in the 3 above sections. Did that for all 3 locations.

Overall, was a very easy install and looks good. It really brings out the Avalanche on the cladding.

As an FYI to those still waiting for your letters, they are thinner than I expected. I envisioned them covering nearly the entire letter, however, they really are thin and centered across each letter. The thin horizontal and vertical parts are probably 1/16th inch and the thicker parts are about 1/4 inch.

Those look really nice! Do they stick well to the cladding? My only concern has been that the thin stripes that you describe might come off with washing, etc.

that's actually my concern, too! ?i'm ready to order a set, but i'd like to know if they're durable enought to last more that one or two washes, not to mention off-roadin dust and dirt...

;D

From what others have stated on the other thread (read colored letters), I should wait a few days before a washing. Also, that it would be good if the Av could roast in the sun for a while to help them cure better. I was able to remove one for re-alignment but after that, they seemed pretty stuck. The backing indicated it was a 3M product so I am guessing that although it didn't feel the tackiest, it will do just fine once it has bonded to the cladding.

I will keep the group informed if I lose a couple vowels!

Jamie

I agree, Jamie! I envisioned thicker letters too, but the subtle, thinner touch looks superb nonetheless. :)

Cheers,
Justyn~

Are those black letters on the gray cladding on the Black Onyx Av? That's the Av I have, so I was wondering which color letters would look best on the cladding. Would red letters be too bold?

Yep - I ordered the black for my black Av. I thought of going with a brighter color, but I didn't want the letters to be that drawn out, just noticeable. I figured by matching the body color, it would look more stock and not look like I added colored stickers to the lettering.

I had considered the gold metallic, but I guess I was for a more subdued look. I will probably try to order 1 baygray graphic to put on my hood deflector.

Jamie

I installed the balck letters on my AV. Have washed the truck twice since then. They seem to bond very well to the cladding. But of course I live in Orlando so the sun probably burned them into the side of the truck ;-)

Jamie, the letters look great....hope they hold up well....I would like that look also but need to really think about what would work with the white Av... ???

Thanks NJAV!

With White, a red may look good. I think someoone posted an example of that in the other thread.

I would think a black or gold would also look pretty good. Gold would probably look pretty good - like the gold accents on a Grand Cherokee Ltd.

:cool:Jamie, looks really great. Well i was the test rat for the bull bar so i am going to give you a few weeks to relate back you experiences so we'll see how well they stick. I have the black also and really like how the black stands out. not to much, just seems like how it should have come from the factory.
GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!
ZEEYA

Thanks Zeeya!

Irontrain, I couldn't wait either and installed them in 50 degree weather under the sun. I had to cut mine as well (as you probably read). They went on just fine in the borderline warm weather. I have just left the truck outside the past few days to roast. Everyone here at work agrees they look good and should come that way from the factory.

Jamie

I had actually been wondering the same question. I am hoping that since they are on the cladding they would last longer because:
?plastic is much cooler than the steel body panels
?you don't wax plastic therefore you wouldn't be buffing the edges of the decal or getting wax on it. I hate that white residue you get around decals!
?its location is not always in direct sun due to its height

I guess we'll have to see in a year or so.

Jamie

jstrickl--Can you post a url or other info. on where you got your decals? I too have a black ava. and would like to try them as well. Thanks...

Hey guys,

Just a thought... Has anyone thought of painting the letters instead of using stickers? Here are some of the advantages possible with paint.

1) Cheaper
2) No edges to worry about with washing
3) Easy to touch up

Any thoughts?

For some reason I can post as a guest but not as myself. Anyone else have this prob?

Hey everyone I got my letters today and installed them. I have the Green Avy and got the Silver metallic letters. The letters match the color of the wheels perfectly and really bring out the color nicely. I cut the letters like Avala - N - che. In a previous post someone had said to try it this way. Well thanks because it worked.

I have a few concerns though.
1) They are not that strong and are very thin. I ripped a letter. No worry though you can't even tell.
2) Do not run a wash rag or sponge over them. I really do not think they will hold up when washing your truck.
3) Even though the sticky side is a 3M product I have reservations about how long they are actually going to stick.
I would suggest holding off from ordering them for a week or two until us people who have them find out if they were a waste.

I also got the Chevrolet Sticker for the back. I will be putting that on tomorrow. That sticker is also Silver Metallic. I think that sticker will hold much better on the paint than the cladding. Plus with it being so much larger I think that will contribute to a longer life on the vehicle.

I got the Chevrolet Stickers on the tailgate today. It looks SWEEEEEET!!! Seriously in Silver Metalic on Green paint looks awesome. I am happy with my decision. My best advise to those who do it is to take your time and very very carefull. With this sticker the letter are much larger than the Avalanche cladding stickers. It is easier to get bubbles inbetween the paint and the sticker.

I am getting the pictures developed tomorrow. Will post the following day.

jstrickl--Thanks for the info. I'll wait to see how they hold up for you guys for a couple weeks as was mentioned previously, and then order if they seem to be ok. Thanks again...

Here we go everyone. What do you all think?
