Come Inside And Vote On MPG!!

i voted for about 16-16.9 mpg. i do not keep track of mpg. i just drive, and pump. if i was worried about gas mileage i would have gotten a 4 cylinder. ;D

The Cookie Monster has about 600 miles on him now. Digital readout said 8.7 mpg at the end of the first tankful. It now reads 9.1 after the second tankful. That's all local driving though. Haven't gone long distance yet.

I have a 2500 with 3.73 gears.

i voted in the 14 range. most of my driving is 40/60 highway/city. ?I dont really abuse the petal, but I've checked my mpg at every fill up and i average around 12.5mpg every time. :6: I new when I got it that mileage wouldn't be great , but thought it be alittle better then this. ?Got 4450 miles on 1500 5.3L 4x4 3.73

I average 19-20 hwy, a big fat 11 in town. Due to my comute 3 miles roundtrip X 14 shifts a month. I fill up about once a month.
WW

18.8 to 19.2 has been my average for the last 4 months, I track mileage every trip since i get paid for mileage for work.
Mods done , tbs, K and N drop in filter, 70 series flowmaster, HPP3, Mobil one, as for as performance goes. None of the mods affected mileage except for the first tank after installing them and trying them out.
Down here in South Louisianna, i get worse gas mileage in the winter time.
That is straight highway miles from point A to point B
in town, 14.5 to 15 playing with the ricers >:D
I did talk to a escort driver for big loads on the road one time and she informed me that she had over 100,000 miles on her AV and she gets 28 mpg and her best was like 31, OK i will end on that note so everybody can clean their shoes off.......

I average between 18 and 19 mpg on the highway and 15 in town. The absolute best I ever did was 19.7.

I knew when I bought my Av, that the mileage was decent (in my mind). When you lay down your money, you have to remember what you're paying for: an V-8, an automatic tranny, and a heavy vehicle, not to mention the best looking truck on the highway.

Considering the mods I've done, the mileage I'm getting is about what I expected

I just did a 320 mile trip yesterday and got 16.4. That was interstate all the way running about 72MPH. I had four people but no luggage. This seems to be about what I usually get on a trip. I have a 02' Z66 with the 373 gears and around 8000 miles on her. I have put on a Meramount Vortex muffler and am going to install a drop in K & N air filter but I don't expect it to increase the mileage. I'd like to know how some are getting 20MPG and above!

UPDATE:

I had 8,000 miles on my Z66 when I posted this milage. I have since put in the K&N drop in air filter and reprogramed using the HTTP III. I am now averaging 20.5 on this same trip! Now, to be fair, some of this increase may be because my Avalanche has more miles (now at 18,000) Or maybe the K&N and the Hypertech helped the milage, not sure which one had the most to do with the increase but I am happy!

I must drive fairly conservatively. I've been getting 19+ on highway trips. I recently racked up about 19.3 on a round trip from Jackson, MS to Montgomery, AL, which takes in Interstates, 2 and 4 lane state highways and city streets. Here's my highway driving technique:

1. Tread lightly on the "go pedal".
2. Use the cruise control religiously.
3. Use a GPS to check the speed (see #2).
4. Don't get in a hurry or let anyone else hurry me.
5. Look well down the road to avoid "surprises".
6. Try to relax and enjoy the drive.

The Av is a great cruising truck!
My Av: 1500 4x4 3.73 stock engine+drive train ;D

OBTW, Mileage around town is nearly non-existent! :p

I have a 2002 avalanche, 5.3L V-8, 4:10 gears, 6" Fabtech lift, and 35in mudders. i manage to get 17 mpg hwy. there is a lot that you can do it increase you mileage i have a Hypertech power programer, true dual cat-back exhaust, and a K&N filter for engine mods. between these few mods you can increase your mileage significantly, and you also get the benefit of lots more horse power. when I got the truck from the dealership I was getting 17.5mpg. then I put in those three things and it shot up to 21.5 mpg. then of coarse I had to get it lifted and the big tires>:D, and that cut it back a bit.

I agree. I have a 2003 1500 and 4.10 gears and sue the cruise on the hwy. It does make a difference and it can maintain speed better then me on the hilly terrain in the mountains.

I have noticed that 100kph (60mph) is the "sweet spot". The mileage seems to get worse the faster you go (according to the onboard instant economy calculator). And it seems to be pretty accurate cause I get the same numbers it does.

I averageed 18-19 on the highway (only 1 trip so far) and about 15-16 in the city.

I guess I must be on the low end. I get about 11.5 mpg but that is purely city driving. :6: Lots of stop and go. Of course since I live in southwest Penna, there are a lot of those "rolling hills". Lots of ups, downs and curves. I think the phrase "You can't get there from here" was invented for Pittsburgh! :6: Of course I also tend to kick in the "electronic secondaries" alot. >:D

Worst I got was just under 10 mpg during a particularly cold snap this winter, but I spent some time at the trolley stop idling while I waited for my wife.

For the record, bone stock drivetrain Z-71 1500 loaded with options, 3.73 gears and 8500 miles, 6 mos. new.

I love this truck!! :B:

I read many of these posts before I bought mine (3/08/03). I read the claims of mileage and was really doubtful of the 18 plus miles per gallon claims.

My first 3 tankfuls were in the 17-18 mpg with combined driving. I recently took a road trip and got 20 mpg plus going from L.A. to the Colorado River (Havasu area). I am a believer now and am very happy with my AV. I LOVE IT!

I was talking to this person last night about trucks and gas mileage. She owns a 2001 F-150 crew cab 4X4 with the bigger Triton V-8. She claims the truck gets 18-20 MPG around town and as much as 25 MPG highway driving. Is this possible? I know the Ford engine is not the beast that the Chevy 5.3L is, and that the Av weighs more than the F-150, but this MPG seems far-fetched. I owned a 3.8L Ford Windstar and the MPG was only around 18 city, 22 highway.

I hate you all  I was happy with my 11mpg rate.

oh well, smal price to pay for the lift and tires >:D

Hey, the 2500's owners are being dicriminated against! >:D I can actually vote and be correct on the scale above, I have pulled 13.9 pulling a trailer from Michigan to Florida and back with the cruise on 75 and 80 all the way, I can say it used less than 3 tankfuls each way, thank god for the 37 gallon tank!

Did I mention mine is a Z71 1500 that is only getting 11 :cautious:

since I added my K&N, hypertech, outlaw fuel mixture, and tornado. I have been getting about 19-21 MPG and I drive nothing but freeway and 5 miles of road at 40 mph. I am very happy with the results I get by using outlaw fuel mixture.

I wonder how some folks really figure their mileage? But in all seriousness, when mine was new it averaged 15.5 for an all-around "per tank" average (all types of driving). With each tank it got better until it was peaking (total average again) at 17.5-17.75mpg. Best pure highway trip at 75-80 was near 21mpg ONE TIME!

Then within a 2 month time period (beginning at appx 9k miles) I had a torque convertor replaced, put on bugshield and ventvisors and installed a SURCO safari rack with 4 Explorer lights on the roof and my all-around average tank has fallen to 13.7-14.3 consistently since. I'll average 75-80 on the highway and CAN tell a slight difference if I drop back to 60-65 but thats C R A W L I N G !

02 Z-71, 5.3, 3:73, stock wheels and Goodyear Wrangler ATS, Mobil 1 0-30W SuperSyn, and usually shift in the neighborhood of 2500-3000 Rs.
