Creaking Noise From Dash

Hey whats up guys, I have a 2002 Avy thats starting to make a creaking noise when I have the steering wheel turned and going over bumpy surfaces. It's an intermittent noise thats becoming more and more frequent. Strange though because it never makes the noise when driving straight over bumpy surfaces, just when I'm almost at full lock (happens most often while trying to turn the truck in tight spots over a hilly area). The noise seems to be coming from behind the dash.. sounds almost like... I tried spraying silicone and the noise still won't go away. Any ideas???

I had a problem very similar to yours, same sound but it would intermittently creak regardless of wheel position. ?It turned out to be a missing insulator/gasket on the back of the dash trim. ?Try removing the front trim following the directions in several earlier posts. ?Just pull the trim starting with the trim around the radio and AC controls and work your way towards the headlight control, another words working right to left as you face the dash. ?It helps to apply the emergency brake, turn the key on and move the shift lever to the (L) position (Note: Truck should not be RUNNING). ?Follow around on both the trim and the dash where the two meet and look for an area that appears to have been rubbing indicated by an area that has a powder like substance visible. ?When I replaced the insulator/gasket noise was gone. ?I used a small strip of thin automotive rubber gasket and applied it with Permitex (sp) gasket adhesive.

wow, great site. Thanks for the quick responses. I think after work I will try and take it apart to see whats going on down there. Dont think its coming from the dash bezel though, its more like the sound the wiring harness would make when you tug on it. If not, i guess I'll have to let the dealer look at it, no matter how much I do not want them to take my dash apart... thanks again guys.

Hey could someone help me, i've got a noise that is coming from the drivers door. It's driving me crazy.... :8:the noise happens over any size bump in the road. With the window up it is very loud, but not so with the window down.Even halfway up or down it still does it.I've driven with the door ajar away from the door frame and there is no noise or creaking.I thought it might be the window but i don't think so,i'm ready to rip the door off the hinges, making the Av a three door.Any direction is greatly appreciated. :D

My dash drives me up the wall. I have a thing for squeaks and I am getting all I want out of my dash. It seems like when the road gets a little bumpy the dash will creak. If I put my hand in the middle of the dash and mash down it goes away. I obviously can`t drive this way though. Also the dash will mash down about 1/2 inch or so when I do this. Any suggestions on what to do here?

Thanks for any help

Having owned mostly American vehicles, I am quite used to CDS (Creaking Dashboard Syndrome). ?My Av is much better than most of the GM's I've owned. ?I usually have to take them back to the dealer within the first few months to have the dash fixed. ?With the Av, I hear slight creaks on occasion, but nothing to be too irritated about yet .

Having never owned a Honda or Toyota, can someone tell me if CDS is nonexistent in these vehicles?

Just bought my AV. Great truck but the constant dash creaking and squeaking is driving me nuts. Time to arrange an appointment with the dealer I guess.

I have previously owned a Toyota Tacoma truck... solid as a rock. No sqeaks. Ever. Period. My wife has a Honda Accord. No squeaks there either.

Only telling you because you asked about Honda/Toyota.

I still love my Av, though!!!! ;D
