If you all have plans for lunch after leaving the Milwaukee area post up here, I cant make Madison, but would be fun to meet for lunch at the least.

So who all has an Ipass or EZpass?

I don't have one, but the last time I drove through Illinois I was in the wrong lane every time I passed a toll booth. (except the one in downtown Chicago)  >:D

I'm OK with meeting up for lunch, but I wouldn't be able to pick a spot.

Not that it matters but I still do from my NJ days.
Have not needed it since moving to MN but lazy to take it off the truck and return all of them.
Called to cancel and they said I had 7 tags and I only know the whereabouts of 2 or 3 at the moment.

were gonna need them to get thru illinois. Otherwise we'll just have to stop at every toll. So dont forget to bring change!!

Makes sense. I am going to get rid of mine because I probably won't go through IL or ever use it but once or twice a year and EZPass is now charging a monthly maintenance fee of $1.00 just for having it.
The $12.00 I save over the course of a year of just having it would be better served towards paying the tolls.

For the IL tolls you can just pay online after the fact, just jot down the toll location and pay when you get home after the GTG.

I have an ipass, as i am regularly down there. Just letting you guys know.

Is there a monthly service fee on the iPass?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

Why isn't it like in the old days you only pay for what you use.
I can only imagine every EZPass tag owner out there paying $1.00 per month.
At last count there were approximately 20 million users out there who now have to pay that extra dollar and the toll rates just keep going up.
I probably wouldn't mind if I still used it a lot but the thought of how much money they are taking in just boggles my mind and I don't want to give them a penny extra unnecessarily.

End of rant....

As far as I know the Ipass is still free. Its a minimum 50 bucks to start. 10 dollar core charge, and 40 goes on the account to pay for tolls. Every 7 years or so, they send you a letter saying time to trade it in for a new one. The batteries are only good for so long. But if you ever just get rid of it, you get your 10 bucks back. And tolls are about half off with those of us that have an ipass.

Bump.

I hope everyone had a great and safe holiday. 17 days and a wake up till party time!! Cant wait to see everyone.

Any ideas on where and when to stop for lunch?

I'll defer the lunch decision to you guys more familiar with the Chicago area. Only 1 request, NO CHINESE!  :D:

I have a set of Walkie Talkies for the trip.

Im good with no chinese either. But If we meet up at 10, we will be beyond chitown by noon. Itll only take about an hour, hour and a half to get thru chitown into IN. And I would prefer we dont stop in Gary, IN. Not exactally a nice place to be. Anything beyond that I'm game for.

I plan on trying to catch the convoy at the Hilside Oasis and driving with as far as you guys want, I just can't stay the night in Madison due to family obligations in Bay City MI.

You can join the cruise as far as you wish. The Hillside Oasis might be a perfect time for a bathroom break. Not sure which is the ideal route through Chicago but I have a small bucket of US change for the toll booths along the way.

As for lunch, krazycarguy is probably right, Chicago might be a bit close. We can play it by ear I guess.
