Cubby Hole Above Light Switches (next To A/C Vent)

Does anybody know, or has anyone found a use for the cubby hole above the light switch and just to the right of the A/C vent? I have wondered since I brought the black beast home what could or should be put in the cubby hole. It is not wide enough to hold much, nor deep enough. If anyone has found a use for it, I'd like to know. :0: :0: I can't be the only one out there that is wondering . . . ???

Those with OnStar have a button there. You can also use it for your own buttons/switches with a faceplate. I can't put much in there without haven't it fall out while driving.

My 4 wheel drive controls enjoy it there. >:D I'm assuming you have a Z66. You may look into putting in the power folding mirrors from the Escalade and I believe that the control from the Escalade goes there. Since you mentioned you have black, the color of the mirrors could be ordered to match...

cpacowboy ... Which cubby hole are you talking about? ?To the left or right of the steering wheel?

To the left, we Z66 owners have our Traction Assist button there? Is it a cubby hole in the basic 1500 models?

Used to be you got a blank panel when options were missing . . . now GM has blessed us with cubby holes. I liked the blank panels - they lent themselves to user added switches more easily. On my OnStar-less Av, I've yet to find a good use for the center dash cubby hole. . . the 4X4 controls are in the left side spot.

I only have cubby holes above CD holder door, which is below the 12v accessories outlets.

Another cubby is in the over head console near the map lights...please note I have a sunroof & a 2002 Z66...

ON the LH side of the steering wheel to the right of the AC vent is the Traction control switch pod...

Now which cubby are you inquiring about?

If you're talking about the left of the steering wheel, that's where us 4x4 owners have our controls as Kronk said. If you're talking about that little one on the right, I put my shades  in there.

Sence I have a Z-66 I have the traction control button there, but I had the same "hole" on my 2000 GMC. I was kinda useless, because it wasn't big enough to put anything in there and it seemed that the bottom of it tilted forward. Allowing anything that may have fit to slide out.

I've yet to find a good use for the center dash cubby hole. . .

I find it a nice spot for carrying my business cards and cell phone.

I found that the console cubby is perfect for my little Garmin GPS-V unit. As for the phone, well, I've got that taken care of also...

You mean "round sticker looking" thingy? (Sorry, I just can;t help myself! >:D )

It got washed out by the camera's flash. It's a little three-dimensional Intel logo sticker I pulled off of my badge holder when I left that job a couple of months ago.

Is an Av worth the bucks? ?;)

It all depends on what you get. For driving, the little handheld units don't do much for you. The GPS-V is pretty much the low end for driving. It has a moving map, and normally tells you what street you are approaching. However, it automatically calculates routes, so if you tell it where you want to go, it will tell you how to get there. As you're driving and approaching a turn, it beeps and shows a map of the intersection, showing the turn you must make.

For driving around town, it's nice. For long trips, it's essential. It has a large database of points of interest, including campgrounds, parks, restaurants, shopping, services, etc. You can search for nearby food, shopping, hotel, or whatever, and it will take you to it.

It doesn't always pick the absolute best route (around town I can sometimes find a better way), but it does get you where you want to go. But even around town, I have my set way of going places, and when I followed the GPS I did find a few routes that were better than my old ways.

I used to use an external serial unit hooked up to my laptop when I went on trips. The little dash-mounted unit is much more convenient, and it's there all the time. I can also pull it out of the dash (I put it in with velcro) unplug the power and antenna lines, and then use it hand-held on batteries.

I love it, and think it's worth it. You gotta make your own decision. Check out the thread I linked to in my previous post.

I have the z71 AV and I don't have the cubby you are talking about , but I would like to know what people put in the one in the roof consol. I have a sunroof and the cubby up there is small, I can seem to find to put in there is a pack of gum.
I store the phone under the cigarette lighters on that shelf , when I close the door to the cigarette lighter it holds my phone great. The cubby above the cd storage I put my wallet in there and my house keys

As for the cubby hole to the left,i have none,4x4 z-71 option ya know. Now for the one to the right,Great for holding my shades. I use the ashtray door to clip my phone to. works out GOOd! :B:

I found the hole!

I did a quick inventory of the cubby holes at our little mini-meet on Friday. ?Only 9 Avalanches on a last minute notice

It looks like cpacowboy has a 1500 non-Z66/Z71 Avalanche. ?Where we have transfer case / traction assist controls they have an actually "thin" cubby hole. ?It really is pretty useless for keeping anything stowed. ?MissAvalanche uses hers as a temporary holding space for some items when during drive through bank transactions.

I put a vacum gauge in the cubby goo929 posted a pic for me. the topic ,on accessories and modifications was rear bumper beverage holders, and on july 12 goo929 put in the link av and mods by got change I slid a piece of carbon fiber between the dasf face to mount the gauge. i had ti drill a 3/8 hole way back in the rear corner of the cubby, but if i remove gauge, you would not notice it ps i got 19 mpg a time or two by watching that vacum gauge!!!
