Hey All-

We have recently purchased an Avalanche and was wondering what everyone thought about the dealer applied undercoating and rust protection. As far as the paint protection goes, I think I going to break down and get Zaino'ed. Any thoughts?

Where do you live?

I think this was mentioned in some older threads....you may want to search and check SKIDD's sticky thread in the mod section to see if he has linky thingy in there.

HTH

I thought the "Rust Through" Warranty was pretty good, and it was unrecommended to undercoat. Please correct me if I am wrong, us So Cal people don't really have that much experience with the stuff.......

Live in the "Rust Belt" otherwise known as Chicago. ?I'll check the threads to see if I can find the one that was referenced. ?Thanks!

I live in the Chicago suburbs...the days of rusty trucks and cars are long gone...In the day I had Rusty Jones (went out of business) and Ziebart...I wouldn't waste my money...sometimes the rustproofing will clog drain holes CAUSING rust!!! I got the full Ziebart package...They "polished" right over bird droppings...I kid you not and when I complained to the home office in Michigan, they claimed most Ziebart outlets are franchised and they have no control over them...WOW!!!
I didn't even want anything other than them doing the job right...Black rustproofing gunk on the seats...You will do a better job taking care of your Av then they will...TRUST ME...or don't...it's your money and just my .02... :B:

Thanks Guys for putting in your .02 cents!

The rust through warranty is pretty good, but as it was explained to me, the rust has to develop from the inside out. I was more concerned with the outside in type of rust! I didn't think about the possibility of clogs because of the rustproofing...I think that I'll put the money into Zaino instead. :0:

By the way, Silversport, how happy are you with Zaino here in Chicago? I'm sure the SoCal guys have great results. What do you use on your cladding?

Thanks for the advice.

(y)I learned of Zaino about a year and a half ago...I have a Corvette and this was the polish to use...I was a BIG Meguiar's user prior to this...I did the Zaino Challenge, The whole treatment of Zaino on the 'Vette and the same treatment with Meguiar's premium products on my other car...
The difference was unbelievable...The look was similar (Zaino gives a encased in glasss look, Carnuba and similar waxes give a warmer look) but after several weeks...The Zaino still looked great AND the water leaps off of the finish...I have NEVER seen this before.
I now use only Zaino.
Sal Zaino will e-mail you if you have any questions almost right away...He recommends using his tire gloss for the cladding but I have heard others here say they were less than satisfied with it...I may try Formula 303 or whatever that stuff is or another product recommended here.
I think you will be very satisfied with Zaino products.

Silver....

Zaino tire product and 303 are extremely similiar.....zaino smells better and lasts a tad longer to me....I use both and others....FWIW.

Dealer applied undercoating, paint sealers, Scotch Guard etc., are huge profit makers for the dealers. You are better off having these things done on your own if so desired. Buying some Zaino and doing it yourself will not only save you a bundle, but you will have a better result as well.

Cool  I haven't tried the Zaino on the cladding yet...it will stay on the cladding and not run off when wet??? :B:
