So I bought my 2009 LTZ w/ 6.0L on Saturday up at Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID.

The final finance woman I worked with to sign all my paperwork offered me a 6 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty with several add-ons like towing, rental, etc. plus GAP coverage. It would take my loan out to 72 months from 63, adding $10 a month. The warranty doesn't run out until 6 years or 60K miles, meaning if the tranny goes and a year later the engine goes, they are still covered. No limit.

When I said no, she then offered me a buy back. If I hit 60,000 miles or the 6 years, I send in my paperwork and get fully reimbursed.

So, with 93K miles currently on my 2009 Avvy, I really need input. She said within 30 days she can re-contract. So it's still not too late.

is this a good idea? Is it worth it?

Sounds like someone is getting a kickback.

So they are saying that in 6 years or 60k miles, they will buy the truck back from you for exactly what you bought it for????

Will you drive it less than 10k miles each year?

Is there a contingency on that they will buy it back but you have to buy another vehicle from them at that time?

Seems like you could drive the truck for about 4 years if it is a daily driver before you have to sell it back.

Not sure what to say.

so let me guess at this ... you are adding 9 months to your finance .... + $10 a month ....

so let me guess you are paying $500 a month ..... so there is $4500 for the 9 months .... + $630 for the 63 months .... so about $5300 for a warr. that is only good for 60,000 miles ....

I'm thinking that is a bit high for a warr. ....

The buy back is on the warranty. So it costs ~$3200. If I hit the 6 years or 60K miles, they cut me a check for that ~$3200.

That's a great way to look at it.

If the trans went out:
  • Under warranty, it'd just be paid for. As would the towing and rental car, etc. And it would still be there if something else went wrong. And it's transferrable.
  • I play the odds that nothing will go wrong with the powertrain like nothing has on the 2004 Avvy. But if something does then I pay a big chunk out of pocket.

Any more opinions?
