Dee Zee EZ Down Tailgate Assist

I'm one year post install and it is operating as expected. Very light touch to let it down, less force than normal to bring it up and close it. You just need to work with the internal pressure or it will take more force. My Bride races out of the truck to let the gate down before I can get there. She just pulls the latch and allows it to fall open.

As was mentioned earlier, my units sounded like they had a lot of air in them and did not seem to have the same or even amount of resistance during the travel down phase. Now, I do not hear any noises, they travel together, and show no signs of wear or tear. The surging sound lasted for a few months.

I was initially concerned about cold weather operation, but this was addressed earlier in another thread on this topic. No problem so far.

It is a good way to save stress on the wrists, elbows, and shoulders to raise and lower the gate.

For those that may remember, the 02-04 models had the Tail Gate Cable Recall. This mod will prevent any future cable failures.

DeeZee does not make a EZ down for the AV any longer. Most folks that try this get the silverado ones.

Since the AV tailgate is heavier than the Silvy they put 2 of them on.
Ok sounds good I bought some for the 07-11silverado stupid me but hey my dad decided he wants it for his and will pay for the one for myn but I will look at the right age silverado now thanks for the help

OK now if you do the 2 of them DouglasOaks posted that the right side will pull the tailgate out of the pivot. So you have to get a radiator hose clamp so it does not come out of the slot.

I experienced this immediately upon installing on the passenger side.

Before I used the radiator clamp, I put a few wraps of black electrical tape around the section to minimize the metal to metal contact with the clamp and the truck.

I used the Silverado ones as well, and I didnt need two.  I have just one and it goes down very slow and smooth.  Probably one of the most useful mods I have used, next to my Bed Slide.

Maybe I got lucky with mine, but mine floats down, and I dont have any slack in the cables either

Do you have one installed or two?  With one I pop the latch, let go and it floats down.  No bounce at the bottom,

You have a builtin EZ up on the 2012

DIY tailgate drop.
I did my own! it was actually pretty easy. found a shock at Princess auto (surplus) $3.99 took about 30min to install and works well!
