My '02 Z-71 AV does not have factory deep tinted midgate glass. My rear door windows are factory deep tinted glass. I saw two Z66s that were delivered from the same dealership where I purchased mine, their deep tinted midgate glass matched the deep tinted rear door glass. I need data to prove to the dealership that my midgate should be deep factory tinted to match the rear windows.

Mahalo for your assistance,

Murman

Cough-Midnight auto-cough , dealer can fix this set back. Maby some other z-66 owner will post same prob? >:D They all have to match!

Back in the beginning of product they had a bunch get out with no tint rear windows....This was like before 10/01 if I remember correctly.....And they deducted like $15o MSRP due to this....

It was discussed on here and there may be a thread or two about it...try a search.

HTH

BTW every AVY I looked at last year had them tinted....

YGMN,

Thanks for the thread. I read it. I seem to have a unique situation with dark rear door windows and a "clear" midgate window. It seems the the discussion on that thread is all tinted vs. not tinted.

The window is too deep for one PDX cop it seems. I got pulled over because he couldn't see my 90 day temp. tag. through the midgate window. No ticket. I think it was more of an excuse to look the AV over since he was fairly friendly when he did see the tag.

Explanation from my dealer:

Rear glass is not dark like the other two side back windows because customer was buying a AV without the dark tint but liked the darker rear window, so salesman changed them out. Since the window is so easily removable, it happens. Have dealer do a Vin # search, it will tell them if it is suppose to be dark or not, and if so, they will order and replace for you. ( At least they should) My .02 worth.

Standard with tinted back, but not midgate window. I asked to swap windows because there was no credit given on the sticker and they let me change out the window.

61 votes so far. Only 4 "NO" and one of those is mine. I am going to the dealership Monday. It would be great to have 100 votes :) (please don't vote twice ;)).

I will post the result of my dealership visit. Hopefully, I can just swap the midgate window out.

Being in Hawaii you need all the tinting you can get, I have always thought ??? the the tinted rear was part of the z71 package....Give them HECK

My Z66AV was born on 06-01 and the back doors didn't have the factory deep tint. I didn't even notice at first because I was so excited, but I noticed other AV's had it so I asked the salesman, and of course he was clueless, so I called Chevrolet's customer assistance line about it and they had the Sales Manager call me. He told me he wanted me to be completely satisfied (Customer Service Survey was on the way no less) so he offered to have the rear doors tinted for me which I took him up on. Can't tell it's not factory. I guess I could have pushed to make them replace the glass but it wasn't worth the BS and trouble it would involve. So make a loud noise, they'll give you the grease! :B:

Or you could go test drive one and conveniently make sure you leave it unlocked so you can swap it out yourself! >:D Just kidding! :B:

Born 12-1
No tint on back windows but back doors were tinted. Hummmmm?
Already had it tinted the darkest i could get it.

Does the tinting have anything to do with the interior - cloth vs. leather? We have leather with dark tint on all rear windows. Born 08/01 - one year old yesterday with 24k miles.

just to really muddy the waters:

the Dealer Invoice for my Av (the one that shows MSRP and Invoice Amount for each item) shows a $150 (MSRP) or $129 (Inv amount) credit for option code AC6, described as "Rear Pass Door Glass Tint Credit".

this delete option is for the rear passenger door glass, not the rear window. It's a 06/01 build date (shipped from Detroit on 6/30/01) 4x4 non-Z71 1500 Av. And, when I took delivery, the windows were tinted, as was the rear window behind the rear seats. Now I never asked my brother in law (he owns the dealership, sweet deal for me) if he had the rear windows tinted for me out of kindness without telling me (that's the kind of guy he is), maybe I should ask him.

Just checked my 2002 1500 4x4. Was made in January 2002. My windows in back are tinted but not the removeable rear. I checked my sticker (not the invoice)and no AC6 credit, or mention of tint for that matter. I will check with dealer on Monday to see what the invoice shows. Glad I read this! :7:

Igottoys,

Welcome to the fan club Brah!

Glad to see that one of your your first posts was to assist me. Many mahalos (thanks) for your input and the input of others. I will let you know the results of my quest for a "deep tinted midgate glass."

I went to the dealership today WRT my AV not having deep tinted midgate glass (DTMG). There was an '02 Z66 on the showroom floor with DTMG. :D

I informed a salesman about my situation. He stated that DTMG was an option, code AJ1. I checked the glove box on the Z66, AJ1. I checked my Z71, AJ1. I went back in, had to find my salesman, and let him know I had option code AJ1. :8:
He confirmed this with his computer and did not have an answer.

He will call the General :B: in the morning and let me know the reason...

I think the poll results pissed him off. ;)

More to follow.

He should not have gotten mad but should have jumped through hoops to make you happy....

Next time do not use him!

There are three Chevrolet dealers on Oahu. The other two (JN Chevrolet and Cutter Chevrolet) wanted between $9,200 to $9,800 over MSRP just because their AVs were on the island.

My dealer, Waipahu Auto Company does not play that "island fee" game.

So I am using my dealer and the salespeople that are on the floor at the time. I don't think he is used to people questioning back. I believe he expected me to say, "It is an option, OK. Bye." I am glad that "sales" is taking care of this and I have not had to go through a "service writer".

However, I concur that the dealership still serves the customer after the sale, and the answer is no unless I ask. ;)

Aloha,
Murman
