Differenced Between 02-03 Avalanche

I'm looking at getting either a new or used (02) Avalance. What are the differences between the two.
I know the 02 does not have dual climate control or auto headlights. What else?
I'm Talking about the base model.

The '02 that we have (Z-71) has auto climate and auto headlights. Personally, I wouldn't want the duel climate control (that's not a misspelling). I do mean duel climate control. ?I will admit that I had to have the service dept. explain the climate control to me. ?You would think that it would be an easy concept. ?If you use auto - you have to put both the fan and fan location on auto. Only adjust the temp. This was it works like it is supposed to. while explaining it, the service dept. guy tild us that a lot of people have trouble getting the hang of it right away.

He said most complaints come from the duel climate controls. See all it takes is someones arm to deflect the air from one side towards the temp sensor for the other side... then the temps adjust to the 'new' temp to get it to where it was programmed. You move the arm back and the temp xchanges back so the sensor picks up on it and adjusts agains. Basicaly, it is a good idea but hard to keep the two from fighting each other. - just my 2 cents.

Never had any trouble with my DUAL climate control. My wife and I love it. However, the best part about it is clearly the "Auto" setting. That thing works GREAT!!

Aside from the differences I just shopped used and new 2002 very hard and they just weren't a deal. Only one has sold on Ebay recently due to high reserves. the best deal I could come up with was a loaded 2002 with 15,000 miles for $27,900. I paid $30,000 even for my 2003. I couldn't find any 2002's used in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Lake Tahoe Sacramento, Lodi, Modesto, anywhere but on Ebay. With the rebates on the 2003's I got my 2003 for $4000 less than they could sell me a new 2002. 2002 doesn't qualify for the rebate of $3000 plus, and the flooring and advertising added to that old of a unit [2002] adds about $1000 to invoice. I may have been lied to about the rebate, but a number of dealers who should of loved to put me in one told me 'no 2002 rebates'.

Yes it appears that if you got a good deal on your Avalanche in 2002 (invoice or even below) from an equity standpoint you're sitting pretty - they are holding their value well. If you paid an early adopter tax so to speak and paid closer to sticker, you're not in as good of shape - but ya a good used '02 is selling for just a few thousand less for a new '03. There are some great deals out there - hmmmmmm, wonder if I should trade for a yellow Av... >:D

I didn't understand the AUTO Climate at first either. Once you use it the way it is designed, it works really nice.....

Now you know why the dealers are sitting on a glut of used vehicles that they cannot unload, due to the great deals on 2003s via all the rebates and financing available.

If you can get the '03 for the same price as the "original", go for it. Otherwise there was about a $5200 difference when figuring in the 0% financing for the '02.

As for the difference, there are some things left off and some things added on. I really didn't see alot of difference when I compared them side by side. Plus I like the light grey cladding better than the dark grey.

One thing I noticed different from the 02 to 03 is they left off the under hood light on the 03. No biggie. The dealer said they call it "De-Contenting". Pretty fancy word for "Leaving stuff off this year"

The bun warmers are faster and hotter, with separate controls for the back and seat. Folding power mirrors.
Still looking..................

This is something I don't understand..I can see cutting back and making some things part of option packages...but seriously..did you really have to kill the light under the hood....this just seems dumb to me.... ??? :B:

These trucks NEVER break down, so you don't need the light ?;)
Jason..you always need a light...what if you have a GTG that runs into the night...and you have to do a Full time DRL mod...then what.....see my point... ;) :B:
