Differences between Bose systems?

I have a question.

My fiance has a 2003 Silverado I have an 2004 AV.

When I first got my truck I listened to my bose system
that came with and hated it. It just didn't have enough
midrange or bass. I replaced it with aftermarket
stuff. Okay.

Tonight I was riding in my Fiance's silverado and she has a Bose
system stock also. Well we were listening to a bluesy CD
she had and it sounded good. I mean GOOD. The highs
were really clear the bass notes were clear and crisp.
Everything sounded alot better than if I had tried to play
that CD in my AV with the stock system.

My question is why? What is the difference between these
two?

Is it because of the cab of the silverado (btw it is extended)
is smaller than the AV cabin?

Is it the location of the tweeters which face the winshield
on the Silverado? I don't think I remember this on my Av.
Maybe I forgot.

Could it be that GM cars/trucks with the in dash 6-disc changer
get more speaker for the buck than a normal CD player system?
Because hers came with the changer and mine came with the
ole single cd player. But I could've sworn that i had premium sound
in mine.

Just wondering because its a pretty good system for a stock setup.
Definately beats my old blazers "sound system" which consisted of
a monoaural cassette deck and a blown speaker on the left side
oh yeah ... >:D

Anyone have any ideas?

I have a 2003 Z66 with the Bose 6-CD Changer in dash, and mine sounds like you described hers. I do not know what is wrong with yours, but I have heard others complain of the same thing.

Yeah, mine sounded like cr*p too! it seems to lack the upper bass / lower MR and the general decided to only put the midrange tone control in the manual!
Get a sound dB meter and a variable audio generator, couple in in (if you have aux in's or a good means), I'll bet what I read here or somewhere similar, that there isn't much between 80 & 120 Hz!! :2: Duh :2: I guess my uncomfortable feeling about BOZO systems were proven! I thought (another DUH) the Av would sound the same as the Ext I drove when I was shopping and deciding. The Ext did sound better.
So, if I can find a dealer tech that knows his stuff with the Tech II, I'll have the Cad amp & INR operating; hopefully, that will answer some of the questions I myself have. (The amp is bigger than the Av's!)

I can't figure why the Silverado sounded better either.

there must be something wrong with yours then cuz i have the BOSE 6disc system in my '04 and it bumps loud when i add the new sub it'll really bump must be something defective in ur system...does it say BOSE on the panels? there's a difference between premium and the BOSE system ask the dealer in the BOSE system they add a small amp & subwoofer in the center console so if ur avey doesn't have the center console then u don't have a BOSE and vice versa with the silverado...

Nah, the deeper bass is ok (for me - it's still stock); it sounds great for movies and certain genre' but it has that shallow spot. If your's doesn't then they found the oops and corrected it in the '04's (and kept quiet about it)!
Since then I have a different amp and it isn't programmed fully functional at this point in time and can't run any freq/level tests :E:. So maybe some 03-04 comparisons elsewhere in the group are in order. That is if anyone has enough curiousity!

Somewhere that I can't remember now I read that there are 3 or 4 different GM Bose systems that we could have in our trucks.

I have the Bose 6-cd system in my '03, and I think it's good.
I know tastes vary a lot, but be aware that I was a recording engineer for a while, so I have some knowledge of what good accurate sound is like. The system in my Av is reasonably good, excelllent for an OEM system.
I think some of the Bose systems in Avs must be significantly different or messed up. I don't disbelieve those who say theirs are lousy, but mine isn't.

how can you tell if you have the bose setup or not? i have an 02 Z71. i think it almost every option you can add ( except the luggage rack). but i'm not sure how to tell on the radio... can anyone help?

No bose on 2002 models....heck no audio options in 2002....HTH

Rogue,
Does your HU display a midrange adjustment? My '03 doesn't but it was in the manual. Maybe that'll shed some light ???
I was quite PO'd :8: when I found out after I picked up the Av. that it wasn't there ! The dealer said they don't and that's normal! When I was shopping, I test drove & played a bit with the EXT which did. At that point I thought they were the same and reviewing the manual it was. I was complacent with it and went on to other things. I should have checked closer!

i just picked up an '04 Z71with the Bose 6 disc changer. i am happy with it. it's not mind blowin', but it's darn good. i had an aftermarket HU, XM, sub, and amp in my '02 Z66 that sounded nice. nice bass. >:D
it just seems that the Bose gives you all the frequencies at more equal levels. rather than me pumpin' the bass, and hardly hearin' the mids or highs. just seems to be a good all around system by OEM standards. so good infact that i am going to just leave it alone. no amps. no big space-eating sub enclosures. no special adapter plugs. just my $.02.

I think I understand I think that the difference must
be those with a console in the center have a different
setup than those people with the bose 6 that have the
bench seat? Where would the sub be placed in a bench
configuation? I can see a small amp under the bench
but I can't imagine a sub and an amp.

I do like the sound coming from my g/f ' s silverado
I just wish my Av came like that. The bose speakers
I took out of my AV were paper granted they were
high quality paper but they were still paper. I just
wish GM would spend a bit more money on the
fit and finish of the vehicle. The new Dodge SRT ram
not only comes with a pretty good amount of hp
powered by a viper engine 500horses but also a
awesome sounding sound system. (Granted I
haven't heard one in person, but it looks good on
paper.) Big amp and a 10" sub designed by Rockford
fosgate.

I do like the bose systems though and if I ever trade
in my Av will look for a premium one on the next
gm truck I purchase.

Happy Holidays all!

Aetatis.

Compared to any other o.e.m. stereo system on the market, I think the Bose setup is excellent! I do agree that the bass should hit harder but that is what a separate amp/sub setup is for.

I love my bose system because I can turn the volume all of the way up without distortion.

Thank you Chevy for finally putting some effort into your audio systems! ;D

My reference wasn't the lower bass in particular; it's sufficient for most of my liking. I do like to feel it but if I want more I'll try some Aura shakers. Bose's base is at least clean. My disappointment as I reiterate, is in the upper bass / lower midrange frequencies. Except for the lack of the clean bass, my old S-10 stock system sounds better and that shouldn't be!!!
(Well, better than my Av's was, maybe not other stock ones as I'm trying to figure that out.)

I was borrowing a 04 yukon SLT from work, this puppy was the full load 64,000cdn truck... So I popped in some cds and they where fine (AFTER I cranked up the treb/bass) you still have to turn the nobbies... (y)
But then again, Im happy as long as theres no distoration.. I dont care how hard it hits..

my brother in-law has an Acura TL witht he Bose system installed. if remember correctly the bass hits hard in it. i will have to check it out this weekend and get back to you on that one. but, i am pretty sure it does. i remember hearing it, and got a little jealous. :6:

I had an 02 Av (Z-66) with Stock system- it sucked...
I now have the 04, Z-71 w/ Bose- It is SO much better that I am doing a Punisher- Leaving it alone.
When having a movie in the DVD( I had the dealer install a ROSEN) it absolutley has a kick a$$ sound-
DVD were meant to be played.
I had Gone in 60 Seconds in, adn keep in for demo to friends and suck- Smoking awsome-
My .02 cents.

Peace-

I have an 03 z71 with the Bose 6 disc system and it sounds great. The only question I have and seen it mentioned in an earlier post.
Is there a subwoofer in the system and if so where is it. Someone mention that it is in the center console. I have the center console and it doesn't sound or feel like it has a subwoofer in it.

not sure about the '03, but my '04 has the woofer mounted in the very front of the center console. i can tell. i guess i just pay special attention to stuff like this. it is very important to me that the truck have decent bass response. in my goal to figure out the radio controls i hunted down the source, or direction the bass response was coming from.

hey sperry,
you know what i don't have that mid range adjustment only bass and treble but i have and EQ or something i'm still trying to F with it not sure how everything works on my HU yet but i'll see what i can do, the HU has all these features like program type, song list, i have XM radio also, and that automatic volume control that makes it louder as road noise increases so i guess it baffles the road noise out... so i'll get back to you on that...ok!

Yep! they have it installed in the manual but not the truck!
Hey General, what's with no audio midrange in the Av!!!

When I bought my 04 a couple of monthes ago the salesman said the SUN and SOUND option gives a Bose 8"sub and amp between the buckets in the center console. The way he was telling me as we looked at different equiped trucks you can get the Bose Sys. with or without the sub. depending on how the truck is equiped. Thats not much info I know but if you look at the info at GM site or in the 04 AVA brochure. They hardly exspond on anything.

i think i read somewhere that you could get the Bose with/ or without the sub now that you mention it.
