Wonder why nobody has come up with a digital replacement/upgrade for the instrument speedometer, tach, and other gauges? I’ve found plenty of sites to do the refurbish and LED upgrade, but no place has digital replacement(s). Seeing some of the Motor Trend restomod shows with digital instruments on hot rods; restorations you would think digital instruments would be available. Anyone see such instruments?

I am just guessing but I can only imagine that the AV has too many electronic sensors and control systems to try and coordinate to do a complete digital dash setup. When you compare electrical systems in an AV to a typical hot rod you will see that a hot rod is very basic and simple in comparison.

Well, the cluster instruments are basic, speed, tach, oil pressure, temp, alternator, etc. You can get most of these from an add-on OBD2 plug-in device but looks terrible on top of the dash. I also saw on YouTube a cluster change out for a late 80's Jimmy S10 which went from analog to digital. THAT was from the 80's; stuff like that should be available these days, but thanks anyway.

I think the main problem is the DIC Drivers Information Center. They can't duplicate that.

Probably, but could always keep the DIC display and replace the analog gauges with digital layout. I guess I'm the only one interested. I've got so used to digital in my new cars that I'd like it in the Avalanche.

Naw you are not the only one, the GMT800 are not classics yet they are just old right now.
I don't think companys are willing to spend the money to develop something until they know there is a market for it.

Digital dash solutions is out of business, Dakota Digital is developing something but it's for the 1980s trucks.

Me I'm ok with a tablet on the console for the gauges

Thanks for the response. Mine is a 2005 and has OBD2 but all the apps I found only had the basic readouts. I thought you need the later CAN bus for more digital readouts. I did contact Dakota and they said they only had the Odyssey series which are individual ones then I'd have to get into more sensors. I guess I could rip the dispalys apart and embed them in the cluster but I'd still have the sensor problem. And they are pretty expensive individually.

I use a obdlink mx+ adapter and yes it can read the CAN bus. You have to use their app obdlink, after you get the app installed click the settings button scroll down to the GM enhanced add-on then select your year. Ps the software is free.

Make sure it's the mx+ because the regular mx will not do it.
