Discolored Chrome Grill Bar

Did some serious cleaning on the Av this weekend. I noticed that the bar that goes across the grill has lots of small grey spots. I couldn't get them cleaned off. I suspect that it is some reaction between the bugs and the plastic/plating of the bar. The plating appears to be intact, no dings, etc. It's especially bad where in the corners where the chevy emblem is mounted :B:
Any one else seen this?
 
I have acid rain spots that wont come off. Be careful trying to clean the bar, it scratches real easy.
 
The chrome bar is actually plastic so be real careful.....

Try using a plastic polish maybe.....

A pic of the spots would help......
 
I know it's plastic. I haven't seen that on other plastic-chrome in the past. If it was real metal/chrome plating, I would expect that it would polish out. I'll see if I can get some pics that'll show it. This will be a challenge. The spots are small, just lots of them. It doesn't appear or feel like something is on the bar. It's clean, smooth & shiny. It appears more like a change in the base color of the plating, almost like it's tarnished.

Let me see what I can do for pics..
 
Put your fingers in a plastic baggy and then feel the spots....the plastic baggie will enhance your sense of feel.....

The chrome plating on plastic is just like chrome plating on metal. The only difference is the substrate. What you are seeing is pitting in the low current density areas ( corners). The plate will do that in time and is intended to slow down the corrosion overall. The best way to slow it down is to keep it waxed, espscially in the winter with salt on the roads. If you try to paint it be aware, paint does not stick to chrome plating very well.
Thats why they call me the Chrome Flash.
