Does anyone know what these hoses go to?

I noticed the top of my transfer case was wet with what looked like old oil.

I noticed 2 rubber hoses running over the top of the transfer case that weren't connected to anything, one had nothing on the end with what would liked old oil coming out of it.
The other has a broken plastic connection piece.

I am not sure where they go. Can someone help me figure out what these are, and what they go to?

Vent hoses.. They should be routed high above the transfer case, trans and diffs..

To add on to this Dialn911, the hose doesn't connect to anything. It vents to the open air, exactly like Randy is saying. It allows for the pressure to equalize due to change in temp or elevation or whatever.

While working on the suspension of an old '03 expedition I used to have, I found someone plugged the front diff vent hose with a sheet-metal screw. I spent a good hour figuring out where the (what I thought was a...) vacuum line should go instead of plugging it, only to realize it was supposed to vent all along! I removed the screw and was done.

Thanks guys, does anyone know what the 2nd hose is for?

If you look, the 2nd hose has a broken connection, which obviously means it must connect somewhere?

It should have some type of check/one way valve on it. Look for where that broken 90 deg fitting may go. Also there may be a Y that connects two hoses together for the trans and transfer case to a common vent and should go up on top of the trans up near where the bellhousing bolts to the motor. If someone pulled the trans out they may not have connected it back up..

My guess is that one is for top of transfer case and you will find the other have of the plastic fitting screwed into the transfer case vent port

I have a question, in the truck where you choose 2wd or 4wd it buzzes athe 4wd won't engage. What is the problem or where do I look first to resolve the issue
