Hey, I'm thinking about removing the door molding on my 04 avalanche. Has anyone ran into any issues with the paint being discolored under the molding?

I thought about doing the same thing but fear of there being marks left behind have kept me from doing this.  I would think the color on the doors would be less likely to be discolored because the sun is not as harsh like the hood and roof.  I think the color of your AV would also play into the formula

With that said, I think a paint correction would be the best insurance to fix any discoloration you might find.  (y)

I recently removed the dealer's vinyl sticker off of the tailgate of my Victory Red 2003 Avalanche that I just purchased.

Those stickers had been there for 17 years and I was concerned that I would have a darker ghost sticker on the paint once the stickers were removed.

That was not the case.

I did not have to do anything special once the stickers were gone and you can not see where they had been.

The paint on these trucks is pretty good and had not faded at all in the past 17 years.

But, as always, your mileage may vary.

Fishing string and then 3m eraser wheel works great, cleaned up the tailgate and side decals on mine. I considered removing the door trim but noticed a few small paint bubble spots around the trim in one area and decided not to mess with it for now. Double check that the paint is in good condition all around the trim before you pull it, but I do agree it is a much cleaner look.

The paint bubbling is another reason I'm being cautious about taking the molding off. But I guess it's one of the risks you take. When I complete it. I'll let you guys know how it went.
