Drip Rails In The Bed

I am going to the dealership to see about replacing the drip rails in the bed. They have split where the curved sides meet the flat bottom. The drivers side is split the whole length (4 plus feet) and the passenger side is just starting to split.

Has anyone else had a problem with this, or is there a TSB that I could tell the dealership about.

Wow . . . this is a new one as far as I know. I'll haveto check my Av this weekend.

From what you describe, these splits would completely defeat the purpose of the drip rails - is this correct?
 
One of the things that makes the Ave so cool is all the new technology which has been implemented. I hope this technology holds up longer than what a lot of people are reporting here!
 
I must be a dummy. Are the drip rails on the top of the bed where the three panels lock in place? Or are they on the bottom of the bed? Any chance of posting a picture.

My drivers side drip rail is split about two feet in the center right at the curve. These appear to be very fragile and mine my have split when stuffing brush into the bed. But a good heavy duty rubber should not split at a seam.
 
Makes my Snugtop canopy sound better and better. The canopy isn't here yet, but soon.

Hey, I'll still be able to use my Avalanche as a truck and not be worried about the hassle of the "newest leak."

I truly and deeply love the Av, but dammit they have way too many water problems.

The SnugTop is nice, but I feel caps defeat the purpose of having a truck. I hual all kinds of yucky stuff in the back. In fact I almost never have the panels on the bed.
 
bfron - Brush? What brush? I didn't haul no stinking brush. :p Have you seen a dealer yet about yours? The body shop mgr. is out until Monday, and no one else will stick their neck out to make a call on the claim.

Aegis - I called them drip rails, but the GM name is "channels". They are to collect any water that gets past the panels.


To EVERYONE: Let's hear some good stuff in here! It sounds like we are complaining about our trucks. I don't know about you, but I get a woody each and every time I change the configuration. How many of you have gathered a crowd while loading plywood? I have!!


 
I think the issues with the leaks will be worked out very shortly....Chevy is aware of the problems that have come from this midgate design..and hopefully are working to make this truck flawless......but luck everything in this world nothing is for sure...except bills.. :(

 
Out of the blue I have noticed a 4 inch split the the drip channels near the tailgate on each side.

I hate to think this might happen every time if they get touched, even slightly. I haven't hauled anything that I would think would cause the split.
 
mine cracked also on the drivers side caused by DEALER. that was 2-3 weeks ago last week when I stopped by there they told me the part was on order still and they had a nationwide something or other placed on the order. supposedly that means if any dealer in the us has the part they will sent it to my dealer. hea right! see attached

Hi, All. I too have a split in my left side channel. Approx. 5 inches or so. I am assuming this will be covered under the factory warranty? :rolleyes:

it is covered under your warranty. The dealer called today my water channel and claddin on top of tailgate parts are in, gotta drop off the Av next week
 
A lot of us have reported this problem in various posts. The plastic rail which splits reminds me of the old Hot Wheels tracks. The plastic is so thin at the lip that it doesn't take much to split it. I have not gotten mine replaced yet until hopefully a newer style gets introduced.

 
Ugh! The Chief's drip rails are split on the passenger side. :C:

Time to call the dealer I guess - however I'm wondering if a better design might be in the pipe - the plastic for the drip rails seems very thin and weak considering the potential wear and tear. Very surprising considering how the bed and components otherwise are bullet proof.

Mine have been split since November. They are going to stay split until about 6 months before end of warranty or I hear on the board that a new design for the channels is being installed. I figure as flimsy as they are now I would have it back for work every few months. Not worth the hassle.
 
Another data point... both of mine were cracked and replaced today under warranty.
