Driver Seat Offset

I have had my Av for 2 months now, and the other day the Mrs. noticed that you do not sit centered in front of the steering wheel, off to the left a bit. Is this normal; has anyone else noticed this?
 
This was noted and discussed by quite a few (myself included) 6 months or so ago. You can try a search. After about a month I quit noticing it. You get used to it pretty quickly.
 
Many of us didn't even notice the off-set untill it was pointed out.

I don't recall anyone addressing the reason for the off- set. Did I miss something?
 
I noticed it two... but coming from F-150's, I noticed a lot of subtle differences... I'm still trying to put the truck in cruise when I mean to run the windshield washer :7:
 
GM does this in lots of their TRUCKS and SUVs...

The steering wheel is slightly left of Center of the driver seat.....I thought it was due to some safety thingy about the steering column or maybe steering box location....

It was like that on my 99 tahoe...Never bugged me.....actually I kinda like it for driving comfort......

My best guess is that the location of the steering box where it's supported by the front frame rails determines the offset from the centerline of the car. I'm not privy to inside information, but I do know that the "G" models ( Chevyvan ) have had this for years, and it's something you do get used to.

It's only since I've had Bucket seats that I sit anywhere near centered behind wheel anyway. Specially in cooler climes. A/C off, you sit closer to the door with window open and your arm resting on the sill.
 
You'll forget about it DVD. As I recall the chair is also pointed slightly towards the center of the vehicle. I don't remember anyone ever coming up with the reason for this.
 
I noticed it the first test drive, thought it would drive me up the wall, also had noticed it on our TrailBlazer. But after that its never been an issue for me. I just finished driving some 1,800 miles (stockton, CA, Anaheim, CA then to Eugene, OR and back to Stockton). During that whole time I can't say the off set issue was ever a problem or anything I noticed until I read this post.

I'm glad I'm not the only former F150 owner that struggles with the wiper/cruise control though.
 
Yeah, I still notice it every now and then. :8:

I'm one who likes to switch which hand does the steering, and I usually steer from the 11:00 or 1:00 position, depending on the hand. It's pretty obvious to me when I swith off. I get a little mad when I think about it.

I personally don't see any reason why they did it like this. It shouldn't have been a problem to toss a couple of U-joints in the steering shaft to shift over like 3 inches to line up with the middle of the seat.

Most of the cars I've ever had were offset. My Honda Passport was dead center, then I moved to a Grand Cherokee, which was WAY off. The Av is off-center, but it's pretty normal.

Well, I'll be. I've never noticed it at all. I'm going to have to check this out the next time I get in.

Never bothered me a bit. Maybe I'm built offset too.

My gripe is the armrest, it is just too high or something, uncomfortable for me. Door armrest is great. I just leave the thing up and rest my arm on the console when I'm steering with the LH.

Guess I'll just have to learn to live with these little quirks somehow.
