Driving through water

I have a question, does anyone know what is that max level of water the Avalanche can drive through without getting stuck. My neighborhood is flooded with about 1.5 feet of water at the highest areas. I need to get to places to help with flood control. is it possible for me to drive through it?  And would I would use 4 Wheel Drive right? I'd rather have an idea now than experience it first hand. I have stock suspension with Z-71 package from 2002.

I have never seen a concrete answer to your question since there are too many variables that need to be considered. Is this standing water or moving?

As a general rule I have always used and taught others that if you can't see the road markings such as yellow line etc. DON'T drive through it.  You can get in trouble fast with the road washed out under you or it gets deep quick and you start floating/drifting.

There is so many electronics on newer vehicles that if a vehicle is water logged it can not only lead to rusting but hard/expensive to fix electrical problems down the road.

It's standing water... Then I probably have to walk around casue i cant see the markings. I measured the depth of about 6 inches up to at points 1.5 feet.

I drove thru 1.5' of water with my '02 by accident in 2004. If it is not moving water then I'd do it

should be fine. water up to the grill is were youll have problems. But like what was said above, be carful if you dont know whats under it.

Usually drive along the Illinois River to get to work.  Only encountered 6 inches, last night.

Wonder what it's going to be like, this afternoon?  I here sirens.

When the floods hit TN a few years ago I had a few times where I went through enough water for it to have pushed up over the hood at a few points. While I definitely would not recommend it, or try it again, unless in another emergency but it certainly can be done. As long as you have the stock airbox on the truck you should be ok.

Creek across the street turned the park into a lake again but it would take some flood to fill the 47 acre 40' hole, I think it would flood the neighborhood across the park instead of mine. I drove thru about 6" on the way home from work.

Alot of people are getting a chance to drive thru water this week.

Let's see.......flood stage for the Illinois in Peoria is 18 feet.

Was at 22.3 feet, this afternoon.  River will continue to rise until Tuesday evening, when it wil be close to 30 feet.

At 30 feet, water overtops the leeve at the Pekin sewage treatment plant, as well as the Komatsu levee.

Parts of Caterpillar East Peoria would be under 4-feet of water.

Ouch.

Parking free on Water Street, until further notice.

Illinois River @ 25 feet, on Saturday.  Crest @ 30 feet, on Wednesday.

Drove through water that covered the wheels... So it was deep... Helped people out. Some girl in a VW was going to drive through it till I changed her mind.. Delivered generators supplies moved people who needed help.. It's sad to see everybody who had to gut their basement and first floors.. Avalanche held up great in the water, I was in two wheel drive, no problem. Thanks for the replies.. Hope yall in the area of the storm stayed dry...

i know this thred is a little old however I go fourwheeling alot in mine so ill throw in my two sence I have a 2004 z71 stock hight well it was at the time we were going to go run a trail up by my house so I went up a week before we planned togo up and ran it just so I knew what we were getting into because we had some lexx expierience drivers going with us.  At one point there was a water crossing and the deepest I had done so I got out and checked it with a shovel and it should only go about 2/3 the way up the wheel and as we were sitting there talking we saw two fourwheelers go through it so we decicded we had it handled and went slow through made it no problem was easy just hit the bottom of the doors and i knew there was a little bit of a burm and I stayed on that so i guess it was only like 3 days later when we went back i was leading and the water there was fed by a small creek up in the mountains looked the same so i drove through and I knew I had pleantly of room last time so I wasnt worring about hitting that burm well It was deeper water then the few days before by probably 6'' plus the other 4'' of not driving on the burm.  So water splashed over the hood and that was kina scary but I get out to check it again for my friend with a stock bronco two who is about togo through and all i hear is YEEE HAAAA!!!! hes a bit of a dork but he pinned it went in and it flooded it we spent the next 45 min pulling it all the way apart after we had pulled it out and it was pumping water out of the tail pipe when if finially started up there was like 7 of us standing around looking at it and it sprayed water all over all of us   it was a fun entertaining trip and that was celebrating my birthday however the night before my C hub i knew was going out I had already got the new one and was trying to just get home (30 miles) well I didnt make it.  It actuallly caught fire and i fixed there on the side of the road the next morning and made it fourwheeling!(i had replaced the other one the day before)

I have been in water deep enough to fully cover a 33.5" tire. In 4x2 as thats all I have. And it was on a hard packed clay/gravel road. Had no problems at all.  (y)

yours is also a little lifted and mine 31's were covered and enough to splash on the hood it was a little deep for comfort

All I can say is good luck to the submariners out there and hope they don't have to post threads in the future of electrical gremlins or rust problems on top of washed out or contaminated lube/fluids etc..... >:D

I think it's probably our there already mine doesn't have dome or reverse lights and what sad is not till u said that I connected the two  :E: :E:

Well I went through standing water like Wyotonka did earlier in the post and flooded the knock sensors. Down the line they rusted and had to be replaced. The waterlogged and rusted knock sensor on the 5.3L engine is a well documented issue. I have since put some silicone there to seal it but I'd be extra careful and think twice before doing that again. That is definitely one soft spot on or Avys

I go trail riding through mud and water and all that regularly. I even wash the engine bay on a decently regular basis. Never had a problem. Wonder if its the older body style?
